@_BoldPolitics This cunt is so thick. I will honestly kill myself on an altar draped with the Union Jack if he enter parliament as PM. The man banks on the idiocy and lunacy of half the electorate.
@TartanSeer You are retarded….”I don’t want almost unlimited cheap baseload power paid for by someone else” you must be a bot, trolling, or you have a sub 60 iq
the single most important military battle in world history, the culmination of all pre-atomic human warfare, the crucible upon which the “undefeated, unstoppable” Nazi war machine was broken and turned back. and thanks to nukes, there won’t be another battle like it
@DanFriedman81 "Men should be either treated generously or destroyed, because they take revenge for slight injuries - for heavy ones they cannot." - Niccolo Machiavelli
@theeboilerman@_PaulMonaghan England and Scotland are the same country. It was your king James the 6th who united us…your part of Britain (like much of the rest) has just been run by fuckwits echoing Bravehart rather than providing genuine and proper policy for the better of Scots.
@not_ewe_again@_PaulMonaghan In an ideal world we would have zonal pricing ( and oil/nuclear etc) so Scottish energy would be cheap, lots of industry, jobs etc. unfortunately Scotland is a a very pretty dump with no money to invest in infrastructure.
Dear Joe,
Your high cost of living is mostly due to excessive money printing, and borrowing to fund zero return state largesse during: GFC ‘08, Covid, Ukraine War, 14 years of Tory incompetence, Labour Fiscal Policy 2024~ now the huge cherry atop the cake of failure.
This is the reason we are, in the words of Andy Burnham, “in hock to the bond markets”. If a politician cannot explain to you why that is the case, and how bond markets work, then they have no right to lecture you on the dismal state of the economy, nor should they be within 1000 miles of any fiscal policy creation. For record, Zack cannot explain either of these things.
The other major reason you’re poorer is because we have the most expensive energy in the developed world. Under Blair and Brown we binned off safe cheap abundant nuclear power, and began the process under Miliband of binning fossils in favour of green energy which has caused us to suffer the insane power costs we have today. High energy costs are also inflationary for virtually all goods and services. It seeps into virtually everything you buy or interact with. You also can’t afford to manufacture anything - particularly steel, concrete, any heavy industry. This means you can’t easily build anything either as those are major materials inputs to all housing and infrastructure.
Needlessly complex planning laws and excessive stifling regulation also mean legally and operationally you can’t build new roads, high speed rail networks, infrastructure, etc. This prevents thousands of jobs being created to improve the infra and transport connectivity of the British isles. There are hugely positive downstream effects of this that will not be realised.
By virtue of this you live in a country with services and infrastructure designed for ~50m people which has around ~80m people (estimates from sewage, water, phone and food/supermarket companies) which puts demand up on public services you’d otherwise find more readily available. Pressure on housing also makes cost of acquiring a home that much higher. Money printing also means the value of real assets has been artificially inflated. This is to say nothing of the fact we are an immutably small island ~25% the size of France, but with the same population.
British capital markets need vast reform. We can’t keep successful businesses here. They list elsewhere as equity raising trades at a 50% discount in other countries like America. This means vast capital and expertise flows overseas too. The tax receipts go the jobs go and the downstream effects are massive and compound over time. Trade deals with other countries need to be revisited as many as no longer fit for purpose. There are so many other areas too long to adequately explain here. Suffice to say they all stifle and prevent Britain from becoming prosperous.
Zack Polanski, like most of the left, is absolutely correct about identifying what the problems are. Here we agree.
But, he fails to diagnose why the problems exist and his proposed solutions to them would exacerbate every single item I’ve explained above.
He wants totally open borders, he wants more welfare spend whilst debt to GDP is already at 100%, he wants more green energy which is intermittent and cannot be used to power heavy industry. He wants to tax wealth creators and entrepreneurs even more meaning even more capital and human talent flight.
Though he may be well intentioned, he is a clueless half wit. Voting for him will make you, your partner, your child and everyone you know significantly poorer - so by all means join the greens if that’s what you want.
But I suspect being even more grindingly poor is not what you want, is it?
Best wishes,
AFC LP
@KayWats_4Yes Whilst I’m not opposed to a zonal pricing mechanism, none of these wind farms would have been put up without the English consumer. Unfortunately CfD prices are crazy these days too. Wind in the north, nuclear and solar in the south is the only way !
@centre_right_ How about we ignore the UN court of Justice like every other country does? No point playing by the rules if no one else is playing the same game….
