The sheer amount of anti-Modi hatred at the protests is astonishing. Not just against the government or the Party in general, but against Modi personally.

People are mocking him directly, shouting anti-Modi slogans, singing songs cursing him, defacing his posters and images, and it won't be surprising if people start burning his effigies on the streets.

This is an astonishing failure of Modi's omnipresent PR machinery. For more than a decade, they worked overtime to sanitize Modi's image, mythologizing him as an infallible, quasi-divine entity beyond reproach. Credit for every successful government policy was always attributed to him, while he was carefully kept away from all its failures, for which his minions (e.g. ministers) eagerly absorbed the blame. Corporate media sang his praises and extolled his virtues day after day. It was perhaps the biggest cult of personality in modern India's political history, surpassing even that of Nehru.

And today, it's all going down the drain. The house of cards is crashing down. As always, pride came before the fall. Style can only win over substance for so long.

Anyone with basic brains can figure out what Indigo did was very intentional. This was not sudden disruption, this was almost a planned strike to strongarm the government into giving it what it wants. What people went through doesn't matter to them, it's just collateral damage. And the fact that govt let this happen is on them. The fact that we essentially have monopolistic/duopolistic situations in so many major sectors is on this Government. But what to do, let's look for ways to blame RaGa on this too.

I loved being in India. My first time.

I was shocked by how normalized Indians are to poor air quality. Breathing the air is like smoking multiple cigarettes a day. Yet no one wears a mask or has air filters in their indoor environments.

The evidence shows that India would improve the health of its population more by cleaning up air quality than by curing all cancers. I am unsure why India's leaders do not make air quality a national emergency. I don't know what interests, money and power keep things the way they are but it's really bad for the entire country.

Every great has bad spots on their legacy.

Cristiano had the World Cup, Messi had his final UCL knockouts and PSG, Ancelotti had Everton, Sir Alex had his first 7 United seasons, Wenger had his final 10 seasons.

José Mourinho has his hero complex, for the good and for the bad.

You can see this throughout his whole career:

In 2004, he wins a Champions League for a portuguese club. He left to England because his job at Porto was done and things had become too easy.

In the next 3 years, he builds the Chelsea foundation. He didn't leave by himself because he didn't win the Champions League, but he had set it all up.

In 2010 he wins Inter Milan the treble with a team of rejects, so he leaves by himself because his job was done and things had become too easy.

He goes to Real Madrid, because Real Madrid are having the worst nightmare in their history and Barça are the best club in the world, so he "needs" to go. 2 years later, the Barça project is taken down, Real Madrid are the best club in the world again and are set to dominate Europe for the following years. He leaves because his main job is done. Alright.

These are the good decisions. They're guided by a pattern: big club needs help, big club appoints José Mourinho, big club wins everything, Mourinho steps out and looks for another challenge.

And then the not so good decisions started...

Chelsea need him because they haven't won a PL in 4 years. He goes, he wins it, but it's not the same project as it once was and he is sacked when things go wrong.

Man United are in chaos, they need help but their project is very flawed. Mourinho goes, he overachieves with what he gets (3 trophies) and then he is sacked when things go wrong.

Tottenham are trophyless for 15 years, they need help but they have no ambition. Mourinho goes, he reaches a final and is sacked 6 days before it. That's just crazy.

And then, Roma. Italy's people's club, a club lost and without identity, a club trophyless for 15 years, a club in need of a hero. So that's the perfect scenario (he even rejected Real Madrid in favour of Roma).

I don't need to remind anyone that Mourinho ended the 15 year trophy drought, took the club to 2 European finals (twice what Roma had reached in their history) and brought back passion to the Stadio Olimpico. All this with NO MONEY. And it was awesome.

And then, just like that, it was over. 2 weeks ago the entire stadium was singing his name, now he's gone. Why?

His hero complex makes him look at the passionate fans who need him instead of the club's FFP problems (Roma can't spend), the very incomplete squad, the sporting director leaving the club mid season and even the new owners, whose plan has been getting less clear in recent times.

Yet, if he was offered the chance, I think he would have renewed because here he found a peaceful relationship with the fans and, most importantly, people who need him.

This hero complex is not a bad thing, but maybe it's not a good thing either, it's just a thing. He's doing his own ride, and we're all here to watch it.

I don't know where he will go next, but I think we will find out soon enough.

The point is: This was not José Mourinho's last trophy, and I don't think it was his last time getting sacked either.

But that's life in football.
