2024 दुनिया का अब तक का सबसे गर्म वर्ष रहा और भारत के खेतिहर मजदूरों ने हीट स्ट्रेस के कारण औसतन 648 कार्य घंटे, यानी 54 कार्य-दिवस गंवाए।

जो 2014 की तुलना में 45.4 और 2022 की तुलना में 16.7 प्रतिशत अधिक है।

पिछले दशक में गर्मी से नष्ट कार्य घंटों में 45 प्रतिशत से अधिक वृद्धि हुई है। भारत 15 जलवायु-संव���दनशील देशों में कृषि श्रम-हानि के मामले में घाना और वियतनाम के बाद तीसरे स्थान पर है।

वैज्ञानिकों ने चेतावनी दी है कि संभावित सुपर अल नीनो और जारी ग्लोबल वार्मिंग मिलकर 2026-27 में चरम तापमान, हीट स्ट्रोक, आय में गिरावट, ग्रामीण गरीबी, खाद्य उत्पादन और खाद्य सुरक्षा पर गंभीर असर डाल सकते हैं।
