Wow so the guy who convinced Platner to run for Senate was also the person who encouraged Summer Lee to first run for office
How does he persuade anyone of anything while sounding like that
@ZoarialNebula@Jxhn_Dube@SuisizeMe Idk man I definitely find myself a unique mix of annoyed, mad and saddened when I see a new example of just how fucking stupid people are now
@soapboxheroin@scarylawyerguy I mean her inability to fundraise is also part of how it was such a bad campaign. It sucks that it's so integral to the process, I agree, but she could have had a lot more monetary support if she had more, well, support
@NathanJRobinson Progs' insistence that you must vote for Platner so the heckin blue team can win the Senate to stand up to the heckin Orange Man makes it transparently clear that rejecting "lesser of two evils" logic was always just a way to excuse aiding the right when the stakes were highest
It would be truly beyond ironic given her past though. Now, that said, there are people who think that if it is real, it's not a big deal? These people should be ignored forever. Not all of the allegations were completely awful, but trapping her in a room? Nope, fuck that
I definitely think I was so prepared for whatever came out yesterday to be catastrophic I was willing to ignore some things that raise some questions. I still think with what we know about his character already (remember, the cheating was after all this) it's possible it's real
@HBendaas So she is now alleging she does have people who can corroborate much of this, and they're looking into what to do now. If true, that means the NYT managed to somehow simultaneously fuck over both Lyndsey and Graham here, impressive stuff
I do agree that the fact that the only one purporting anything this bad is someone who politically benefits is suspicious... but by the look of it, we might soon find out that's not the case. Wait and see. Regardless, even if it was 100% bs it just doesn't have to be this guy!
So, it would appear this is not over. I'm getting BBC BAFTA vibes from this in the sense that the NYT seems to have done literally everyone wrong at once somehow. Assuming this is all true, but if it is it looks like we're going to find out. I reiterate that Maine has RCV
I bucked all advice from my friends (and resisted my conservative bias) and decided to fully trust the Times journalists.
As they left my home they asked that I not talk to any other outlets and I insisted then and repeatedly over the following weeks that I would keep my word and only share this story with them.
But then the weeks dragged on. They kept coming back to us saying the editors needed more. I needed to go on the record (okay). We need more screenshots (okay). I met every bench mark they set, eager to provide more sources or evidence as needed.
After the story went up I began to ask them … wait, where are the stories from the other women? Where are their accusations of sexual assault? Why am I the focus? Why are there 11 paragraphs dedicated to detailing my work history (more than has been published about Graham’s by far)?
Why does it say “nobody could corroborate” when I offered them sources that COULD corroborate?
Why did they include an out of context quote from a friend joking “do not call Graham” after I called off my wedding? (Because she knew I would never).
Where were the screenshots they’d said they would use? Or the mention that I’d supported local democrats and that most of my family (and husband) are liberal?
The editors said it was too much, they explained.
The Times also failed to include any mention that I DID confide in multiple friends through the years that Graham had been abusive — long before he was running for office. Those friends confirm they told the Times so.
It dawned on me that this really was a set up all along. The journalists I trusted who convinced me to share a story I never wanted to tell methodically delayed and twisted this into a gift to the Platner campaign. Violating the trust of his victims. Shattering the trust I placed in them with the most vulnerable story of my life.
And at the end of my call with them I reluctantly accepted their insistence that this was still a powerful story and that I had done a brave thing. And I thanked them for all the hard work they had put into it.
Still fawning after all these years.
@islaymorons@TXFirst45 In the sense that people who dig in their heels to defend centrist/lib Democrats are "blue MAGA". Green is often associated with the progressive left so it feels like the most fitting color to use for them; Bernie was usually depicted in green in primary graphics for instance
@ElectionCenter_ There is surely at least one other Mainer above 30 who believes the things he does and is articulate. They don't have to have political experience, Platner doesn't! They don't have to win a primary, they can run as an independent, Maine has RCV!
