Every now and then... someone takes the plunge.
With their sheer weight and low center of gravity, bears show remarkable stability on Brooks Falls. But as bear 409 discovered late last week, standing so close to the lip can be a risky move.
Always keep a safe distance when viewing wildlife in Yosemite. The safe distance to be from a bear is at least 50 yards. If you get too close, the bear may become used to people. It is crucial for bears to keep their natural fear of humans so they can remain wild.
