Children’s National Hospital has launched an expanded mobile medical program to improve access to both physical and mental health care for children across the Washington, D.C. region and parts of Prince George’s County, Maryland.

The ���doctor’s office on wheels” brings services directly to schools and communities, offering well visits, immunizations, chronic illness care, and growing mental health support. The program, led by Dr. Hope Rhodes, aims to reach families who face barriers such as transportation and difficulty accessing traditional clinics.

Originally operating with one unit for more than 25 years, the program is now expanding its fleet with support from the United Health Foundation. Officials say the additional unit will help meet rising demand, especially for pediatric mental health services and seasonal conditions like asthma and allergies.

Care is covered by insurance when available, and provided at no cost or with enrollment assistance for uninsured families.
