I am sitting with my friend who is at his Canadian citizenship ceremony via Zoom. There is a long delay. He was supposed to swear his allegiance to the Queen. I'm guessing they're trying to sort out what to do now.
“I'm convinced of this: Good done anywhere is good done everywhere. For a change, start by speaking to people rather than walking by them like they're stones that don't matter. As long as you're breathing, it's never too late to do some good.”
-Maya Angelou
As an Amtrak lover, I’m excited about possibly having more routes back. But for rail to be viable long term it needs speed. Maybe not plane speed, but speed nonetheless.

Afghanistan is a hot mess and is undermining the president’s competency message. But at least the president is not telling me to inject myself with bleach. 🤷♂️
Scientists have determined the Murchison meteorite, that fell 52 years ago, is now the oldest material on the planet
It's 7 billion years old. 2.5 billion years older than Earth itself!

Going to my university office for the first time tomorrow. Actually a bit nervous about how this will go, but thankful they are requiring ALL THREE: vaccinations, daily health checks, and weekly COVID tests.
U.S. fought a limited war in Afganistan. US gov forgot to limit its objectives & promises. It's horrifying to watch. I hope one limited objective we did accomplish is a meaningful agreement with the Taliban to cooperate against terrorists plotting attacks in the US.
If correct, 88,000 interpreters and their families who needed rescuing. Only 1,200 were saved. This breaks my heart so hard. The next few days are going to be so terribly bloody. The carnage will impede the US in future foreign conflicts.
The U.S. government have likely rescued less than 2,000 Afghan interpreters and their family members at this point.
U.S. officials said on Friday that the number was about 1,200.
