@NullVoxxed Fair enough
The big gripe for me is when people straight up call it bad cause at that point they're just refusing to engage with the art. Zelda games are just as much about putting yourself in Link's shoes as they are fun to play for gameplay's sake.
@The24thFrame@KaiserWave_ I'd like to see examples of items useful outside of dungeons that aren't the same in TP.
Even the spinner gets some use for specific heart peices post arbiter's grounds. Almost every point you made is so vague that it could be made about TP too anyway.
@AwesomeUKFacts@Rhyhello Skyward Sword is a genuinely beautiful game with some fun dungeons and a great story. Just bogged down with many mindboggling pacing choices and a very odd control scheme
Still love it like all Zelda games though
@meteotek@THawkMedia Also they have fundamentally different purposes. Oot isn't idyllic. He's an outcast with a single real friend and the whole call to adventure is his way of finding purpose in life. TP link is happy and satisfied far as we've seen and his reason to leave wad to deliver a sword.
@meteotek@THawkMedia Not really?
The forced moments are feeding the cat for Sara, herding goats with fado, and getting the baby basket for Uli. Every other one is with the kids. Rescuing Talo, the sword and slingshot training, and the scene with illia in the spring all involve the kidnapped kids.
@meteotek@THawkMedia While you the player is there to save the day. Link the character is there to save the kids he grew up with. The village exists to give Link further meaning to go on his journey. It also serves to provide a whiplash in tone when you go from this perfect life to the twilight.
@AwesomeUKFacts@Rhyhello Sorry but oot is mid when compared to it's beautiful children
Great game
But iteration happens for a reason and we have multiple examples of Oot's formula perfected
TP being one of them
@junezdollhouse Bloodlines were wiped out but we meet nobody who really talks about it. Far as the modern hylian is concerned who's zelda??
Kakariko village in TP has a line mentioning the shadow beasts directly killing multiple villagers. Closest we get to that in BoTw are the champions.
@justaguy0507@GameNStuff Multiple things ingame heavily imply it. Most of his dialogue toward Link references a familial tie of some kind, he constantly says things that reference him being a former hero, the manga and hyrule historia directly confirm it. It's not a theory anymore bud.
@yakuza3d2a@mpoopy992712 Oh no a nice story buildup that if you don't rush gets you settled into the world and makes you understand Link's view of life before he's suddenly thrown into a lifechanging adventure even faster than OOT link boo fucking hoo
Oot is great but TP's prologue is overhated by people
@PatoEcl@NEEMOAHTOAD It's a warning to link that even the hylians could be corrupted by dark powers. The dark links represent the twili people before they were banished. They coveted the triforce and were punished by the gods due to their use of dark magic. They're a prelude to the Ganon stuff later.
@Rhyhello I really need to play that one again. The last time I did was so long ago I know I've forgotten all the puzzles and the story was so refreshing. Recently got a modded new 3ds so guess this is a good cue.
@Rhyhello Massively agree about majora's gameplay ,but the music, world, sidequests, and general vibe elevates it so damn much. TP is my personal favorite in the series right next to MM.
@Cakman@badgraphix@SeibaaHomu Eh that's what the bit snowballed into
The original video is mostly riffing on modern shooters doing the quippy MCU dialogue during gameplay with a "guy in the chair"
@badgraphix@Cakman@SeibaaHomu No
It's not
MGS codec calls don't happen during gameplay and aren't a constant companion. They're a concious choice or forced pause moment where something is explained or you choose to ask.
Focus M is making fun of the sidekick attatched to you that never shuts up during gameplay
@badgraphix@Cakman@SeibaaHomu Except that's not the joke
The joke is that the dialogue itself is trite and unnecessary. MGS is a lot of things but a lot of the codec calls are exposition not "snake there's a branch you can hang on" being shoved in your face. You only get those by calling on purpose.
