Really appreciated being part of the Cops Off Campus & Everywhere Else sessions earlier this week at #AAG2022 and want to share this Abolition in Geography sign-on (especially to cartography and architecture folks!)

This means nothing if you don't change your Ethics Code. Prisons and police precincts are violent designs, but you literally have an annual conference on so-called "justice architecture". Justice for whom? Follow @ADPSR_org recommendations, and then call these designs unethical.
Thank you @AIASeattle for your Statement on Racial Injustice, but where are your statements on the Bunker and the Youth Jail? Or about the continued role of architects in gentrifying the Central District, Chinatown-International District, and South Seattle?
You cannot disentangle the colonization experienced by indigenous ppl from the racism experienced by black ppl from the xenophobia experienced by latinx ppl from the imperialism experienced by palestinians.
They’re all different extensions of the same oppressive project.
Please don’t say ‘xyz has a disability but they don’t let it stop them living their life’ because believe me, the barriers in disabled people’s lives are the ones placed there by society, not by ourselves.
I'm not asking for American activists, especially kids, to know Marxist theory and all that. All I'm asking is for them to stop seeing American lives as worth more than non-American ones.
Shutting down schools in predominantly Black neighborhoods is racism cloaked as budget cuts, and we cannot let cities like Chicago abandon our Black kids without schools to go to

People will gerrymander a district, gentrify a neighborhood, tear down public housing & close a dozen schools to give their kids the chance to succeed over others but if someone tries to escape violence & poverty to give their kids a better life those same folks call it criminal
Oh oh! Fix your inaccessible workplaces and city streets and public transport systems. Stop telling me I’m inspiring for navigating them and start fixing them. They’re broken.
Just a reminder that when discussing the lives of Haitians, Salvadorans, or undocumented families you’re not “giving voice to the voiceless.”
These folks already have a voice, it’s just a matter of whether people are willing to lift them up & listen.
You want to know what's left after a sweep? You want to know what happened to Ravenna Woods by @SeattleCouncil and @SeattlePD?
They trashed the encampment.
They destroyed their community.
This is what Seattle does to their homeless.
The people have nothing left.

I've been thinking about syllabi a lot lately, what work gets considered "foundational" or "necessary" and what gets considered "additional" https://t.co/veb4sIw3ui
