@kaloxyz@Trent71q ...that whole approach to presenting a match has a lot of potential. Nowadays, though, everything is shaped by a different approach. You might still see similar shots, but the intent behind them is different
@kaloxyz@Trent71q Not really. There are a lot of performative aspects that I love appreciating, and you mostly see them in old-school matches. The facial expressions, the staring, the way they size each other up, the close-ups of their limbs intertwined in a hold+
@NinetySvn97 Hogan had an incredible understanding of how to work a crowd, control the pace of a match and command the space with his presence, and his matches in Japan only served to highlight those strengths
@ProWMoments watched it. One step forward, two back tbh Omega's a tier above Ospreay but the heel stuff, the trash talk and gestures, was cringe. Doesn't change my point though, this was never factual, it's conceptual
@ProWMoments@TheRealDaveChim Modern wrestling media has a neotenic streak stuck rewarding flashy mechanics like a kid's taste, never maturing into what actually makes a match believable
@ProWMoments@TheRealDaveChim And that's the actual lack of seriousness. Omega, Ospreay guys like that genuinely great at what's really just the base layer of wrestling: the mechanics. No argument there. But ask them to carry something more implied, something closer to behavioral realism, and they're mediocre
