@femmaryam @amaizhanlu @anthycuute basis of “true” terf ideology is that children who are perceived as boys get treated as boys by the people around them (e.g. higher allowance for breaking social norms, more entitlement, etc.) even if they’re obviously “weird” or not masculine — all “amabs” get “male socialized”

[Swolecialist @BlackLanterrn]

Like Im a little worried some of yall are starting to sound like this:

[Cassie Pritchard @hecubian_devil]

If you’re a Mamdani booster, there’s nothing to be mad about here; if anything this helps cement his broad appeal as normal/relatable, vs “crazy” leftists.

If you’re a leftist antizionist, though, this is frustrating and disappointing. Not because they’re being unfair to Zohran or whatever—but because there’s still so many on the left who clearly have no theory of power or change beyond “petition those who have power.”

The archetype of The Radical that they hold in their minds—and which they seek to emulate—is the permanent outsider, the externalized (shaming, haranguing) conscience of those who can actually make decisions. Never the decision makers! Never the ones with power, but solely the beggar to power. Except the begging is disguised through performative hostility as if it were something else, a demand with real force behind it. But of course, there is no force, no leverage. It’s all kabuki—but the audience for the performance is, more than anyone, the performers themselves.

If you think Zohran is a genocidaire, I think that’s nonsense, but honestly that doesn’t bother me *nearly* as much as that *this* kind of empty gesture is your response to something as profoundly horrifying as genocide. Can’t you build something better, bigger, stronger? At the minimum, you could primary him from the left in 2029!

But if not, please come up with *something* other than these kinds of powerless acts of prostration, of begging, masquerading as demands. You can’t demand anything without power—if not electoral power, then find something else. But without power, it’s not a demand, but a plea. A whimper.

[Kali @Kali_de_Armas]

idk op, but a lot of this stuff will start to make sense once you realize that in the minds of many, queer or not, "Woman" is the Innocent Gender and "Lesbian" is the Thoughtful Sexuality. Nobody wants to be a straight man (Evil). i can see this in others cause i have it too lol

[handsome gretel @greatestdisease]

@lottemunsterttv yes, the promise of fascists is that if you are as scrupulous as them about identifying and punishing undesirables then you get rewarded with safety and a sense of superiority. but of course the promises of fascists are always lies

[perfect angel @tragic_endings_]

Thank you for being honest about it

I think another aspect of wokescolding is that it gives ppl with very little power in their daily lives a sense of power when bullying other ppl

And they can pretend they are engaging in radical action without even leaving their house

[enemycharlie @enemycharlie]

As someone raised by tumblr (unfortunately), the covid conscious lesbian bar story is a lil disturbing bc I see my past behaviors in it. I was a self-righteous wokescold as a teen and as a young adult and I'm so happy I grew out of it. Sometimes my heart was in the right place and my passion was appropriate, but oftentimes I was just trying to justify my dislike for someone or something.

I try to keep my online and irl spaces free of wokescolds and the only way to do it is to have a zero tolerance policy. Catering to wokescolds leads to a space dominated by them, and then normal people who are charitable in their interpretations and free of black and white thinking don't want to be there. And that sucks! You'll be surrounded by crusaders ready to ruin your life and paint you as an ultra ableist for not agreeing with their Steven Universe headcanons or something.

[jimmy falun gong @eviIcherub]

i don’t think it’s a right wing hate campaign i think some leftists just need to get a grip and then maybe they won’t be catnip for fox news

[. @H7TAZONE]

@DeoTemple @meowingabyss @barbarismcrit this original issue is already partially a twitter/online issue, half of the outcry/pressure on the bar was from ppl online who rarely went to begin with

this issue is honestly partially downstream of the twitter “online leftist” issue

[Arthur Wrong 🔸 @arthur_wright_]

classic leftist-community failure mode: 10–15% of the group are either severly unwell, power-hungry, or mean. Everyone else is ~psychologically normal, but the loud few speak a language they are committed to never challenging, so they grovel no matter how unreasonable it gets

[Pander 🇵🇸 @PanderShirts]

lol

[. @H7TAZONE]

@DeoTemple @meowingabyss @barbarismcrit the space is overrun with these kinds of people, that’s the whole point/reason it’s been gaining so much traction rather than being limited to a “right wing chuds taking the piss” thing

[. @H7TAZONE]

@DeoTemple @meowingabyss @barbarismcrit she’s saying we haven’t been able to shape the space bc previous attempts to shape the space have been shut down as being “ableist/racist/etc.” or “this isnt a real issue”, it’s literally the first tweet

[barbarism critic @barbarismcrit]

Every time we try to address this issue, tons of people show up trying to tell you that it’s not actually that big of a deal, that it’s not all that common, that you are bigoted in some way for being repulsed by it. Pure gaslighting. I’ve seen this behavior destroy organizations and fracture movements in real time. You cannot be endlessly accommodating to self obsessed narcissists who are actually just bad people who happened to learn the right combination of words to use to make their bullying self-aggrandizement seem righteous!

[TwoDudesRankTunes @TunesRank]

@LauraRbnsn I’ve long thought that this problem is the same that face very fundamentalist religious groups. Because so much focus is put on moral purity, there’s very little way to police it when someone uses that moral purity to attack someone.

[Ashley Reese @offbeatorbit]

The problem is that anyone on the left who speaks out about it gets mass harassed or doxxed and slandered into silence in return and their friends and ostensible allies are afraid to stand up for them bc they don’t want to get harassed and doxxed and slandered either.

[Armand Domalewski @ArmandDoma]

the reason this lesbian bar story went so viral is that basically every left wing person in America has personally experienced some version of this story in their life over the course of the last decade and is really goddam sick of it

[perfect angel @tragic_endings_]

Btw this is the real reason why stuff like “misandry” and “you can’t be racist to white ppl” and the general idea that you are allowed to be a giant asshole to ppl who are more “privileged” than you got so popular online

It gives ppl an acceptable way to bully others

[perfect angel @tragic_endings_]

Im sorry but this is why the “racism is power + privilege, therefore its ok to be bigoted as long as you are more oppressed” approach that tumblr popularized was always fucking stupid

Bc instead of opposing bigotry on principle, it served to justify treating other ppl like shit
