I've been following along #ASTRO22 and can't help but think about how some research being showcased furthers inequity in medicine. Some places have all the tech, AI, MR linac, protons and certain patients can/will travel for that technology, whether or not it clinically matters.
🔥🔥🔥

Dr @RRabinovitch on Looking In The Mirror: What I Didn’t Know as an Oncologist Until I Became a Cancer Patient. I loved this section about the “free fall” after active cancer tx ends. It mirrors what I warn my pts when they finish RT. Sometimes it’s the hardest part. #ASTRO22
“#Impostersyndrome is an EXTERNAL phenomena that people have been tricked into thinking is an INTERNAL problem.” Dr @ChristinaChapMD dropping some truth bombs at this #ASTRO21 storytelling session.
In case you missed the fantastic panel w/ @KekoaMDPhD please share these QR codes with #URM researchers for mentorship opportunities. Blown away by the work being done and demystification of the process from @DrWinkfield#ASTRO21#DElinRO
@melaninandmed @WomenOncologist@GWSMHS Best of luck with your application cycle! I am a PGY-4 at #UCSFRadOnc. Happy to talk about anything in RadOnc in general or at our program. Feel free to reach out any time!
This #ASTRO21#DEIinRO is def one I will be watching again. Mitigating bias in the hiring & residency review process should be a top priority for every program. Structured interviews & holistic review via standardized rubric are important tools to help level the playing field.
@pre_rad I was reflecting on this last week as I prepared for our weekly academic Breast rounds. Have you read any interesting published reports/perspectives on this recently? My literature review was somewhat out of sync with the lived experiences of family and patients in my community.
We know that Black children are often viewed as adults? And that Black patients/parents are penalized for the very advocacy that is professed as so important to care? And that Black patients are often referred less for "aesthetic" procedures...like breast recon after mastectomy?
The opening voice that set the stage for #ASTRO21 was an amazing woman, #advocate, #survivor, who also happens to be black AND a #radonc. Her reflections on humanism had me so wrapt I didn’t get a pic. Check out Dr. Shekinah Elmore @pre_rad - her @TEDTalks was amazing!!!
