They said, “A hostage is free!”
And no one asked: But what of the others?

I am not against the boy’s freedom. No, no, God forbid. let every captive return to his mother. Let every hostage see the sky. Let every soul be spared the torment of being unseen.

But I ask, how is it that you remembered him, and not the 2.3 million? How is it that a machine of negotiation turned its wheels so quickly, and yet Gaza burns without pause? How is it that a ceasefire was not required? That the killing never stopped? That the fire kept falling, even as the cameras clicked and the handshake was sealed?

They have proven something unspeakable: They can release a hostage without peace. They can save a life without mercy. They can act, but they choose not to.

You speak of geopolitics, of mediation, of security. I say: you have created a world in which a child must die for a government to feel strong. You have forged a morality where grief is measured by borders. You have trained humanity to recognize suffering only when it serves a flag.

The world watched a hostage return home, and called it humanity.
But it was selection.
It was a declaration: this life matters. These others, do not.

Let us not be fooled.
Gaza is a prison, yes, but not of war. Of will. A prison of choice.
A sentence written not by the guilty, but by those who stand aside.
The guards are diplomats. The locks are embargoes. The silence is the verdict.

And I, I who believe in the redemption of men, I say this as an indictment:
You have placed human life on a scale, and decided whose breath is worth your politics. You have the power to end the fire. To open the gates.
And you keep your hand at your side, because our death is easier to digest than our existence.

They say, “All hostages must be freed.”
Then let it be true.
Let it include the man in the rubble.
Let it include the girl dying of infection in a collapsed hospital.
Let it include the mother who no longer counts her children, but her losses.

Do not call yourselves civilized while Gaza screams unheard.

Freedom for one proves your strength.
But the continued slaughter proves your soul.

How dare they become “Syrians” and not “Syrian refugees” anymore?
How could they choose who rules the country without asking me: The westerner who has known nothing but living peacefully without being tortured or murdered for disagreeing with the government!
But what about my geopolitical insights on the area and what follows after overthrowing Assad?
My ideal political point of view is now ruined because Syrians believe they are humans who deserve to live freely with dignity and the right to decide their own future.
But I matter and no one else does!
