Every Somali should remember where we stand with #Ethiopia, #Djibouti & #Eritrea. They are not the same neighbours to us, there are levels to our standing among them.

Ethiopia: Since 2005, Ethiopia claims to have trained & equipped Somali forces & officers. In those nearly 20 years, we haven’t seen any contingent of such an army. Mind you, from 1991 to this day they are the biggest interventionists in our internal affairs, looted Somali industries & balkanized the country.

Eritrea: In only 5 years, Eritrea built an entire army complete with all necessary components, armaments & financed the creation of the 10,000 man commandos. For a country with so many promised help, this is the single most tangible thing any state has done for Somalia since our fall. Since their independence, Eritrea is the only regional power that has never violated a Somali in their territory.

Djibouti: although the president paints himself as a brethren, since his accession to power to this day, he proves to be the single biggest impediment to Somalia’s revival. He has infact tremendously benefited from our fall & division. Helps launder stolen Somali funds, aids the crippling monopolies & harbours all the spoilers in our country.

He brings up two issues; Carta Peace Process & Djibouti army dubbed (Hiil Walaal). Lets put his claims to test, shall we:

Before Carta, the reconciliation was supposed to happen in Hargeisa where Mohamed Haji Ibrahim Egal & Abdiqassim Salad Hassan would meet. This was expected to re-unite the south & north after the fall, Egal had previously returned from travels abroad with his famous saying “I have travelled all over to seek recognition, but the world turned its back on us, we will have to rethink our affairs.” Ismail Omar Guelleh with nudging from Meles Zenawi hijacked this proposed meeting to Carta, that is where we got ourselves into the contemptuous 4.5 system that degraded us to these disparaging levels.

As for the participation of the Djiboutian army in the fight against Al-Shabab, it is false claim they aren’t brotherly forces, they are a contingent within the African Union led mission ATMIS (formerly AMISOM). The only contingent with no known record of operations against Al-Shabab with even reports of close collaboration with the terrorist. This army whose operating budget is $2540 a day for their APC & every soldier takes home $1100 minus allowances every month. This is one of the many cash cows in Somalia that benefits Guelleh’s rule.

Eritrea is closer to us in principle, Djibouti & Ethiopia are only united in their dislike of Eritrea because it will not submit to outside pressure but remains defiant (a crime in their treasonous eyes). Self confidence and strength are God-given traits in Eritrea.

We are not fools, our eyes are wide open to all of this.
