Umayr ibn Sa’d (ra) was a young companion of the Prophet ﷺ. He later became governor of Homs, in Syria. 

When Umar (ra) summoned him to Medina, he walked 800 miles to see him, showing up sunburnt and disheveled.

Umar decided to investigate further.

A man was sent with some money for Umayr (ra). He found that this governor lived in poverty, and even gave his only food away to the guest. 

He gave the money away to the poor and the children of the martyrs. 

It was a level of integrity forged by his habits during his youth, such as always being in the first row of prayer.
