I have been a Democrat my entire voting life. I said this after October 7, and I mean it even more now. This is not the Democratic Party I once knew.

I do not like Trump, and I have never voted for him. But Trump Derangement Syndrome is real. The inability to think critically or rely on fact-based reasoning, driven purely by disdain for one person, is deeply disturbing. It shows how ignorant and detached from reality some people are.

If Democrats want to keep pushing people like me to question our continued commitment, middle-of-the-road, tax-paying, contributing members of society, and yes, the bar is embarrassingly low these days, in favor of champagne socialists and fake revolutionaries who flirt with domestic extremism, they will do so at their own demise.

What the Democrats are doing on the government shutdown is genuinely unprecedented, and while the administration has shielded the American people from the worst of the consequences, all of this is coming, and soon:

An aviation emergency that will lead to significant travel delays for all Americans.

Food stamp and other assistance programs running out for needy Americans.

Great strains on our military and national security.

The shutdown has now passed from farce into tragedy, and the consequences of this national emergency fall on every senator and congressman who refuses to open the government.

It’s becoming clearer by the day that Democrats don’t want an outcome, they want a political issue.

They’ve refused to reopen the government – 12 times.

They’ve refused my offer to discuss Obamacare’s failures.

They’ve refused my offer to hold a vote on their own proposal to address a problem they created.

They’ve refused to pay the troops and federal employees who are working without a paycheck.

The only thing they’ve said yes to? The Schumer Shutdown and political “leverage.”
