I can confirm that in one of the management meetings with MTCC bus drivers, they were explicitly told to prioritise Maldivians over expatriate workers.

Racial discrimination and xenophobia have become institutionalised in Maldives.

When Muizzu, as Mayor, began charging foreigners to enter Sultan Park, I recognised it as the start of something troubling. I tweeted a lot against it, but many racist Maldivians were in favour of that policy.

I was right.

Since becoming president, he has expanded that racism and xenophobia across gov institutions.
