Scientists actually do have strong evidence for why puberty is happening earlier…it’s just not a single cause. The biggest factor is exposure to endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs) found in everyday products like plastics, personal care items, fragrances, pesticides, and food packaging. These chemicals mimic estrogen and interfere with normal hormone signaling, which accelerates breast development and puberty in girls.
Other contributing factors include higher childhood body fat (fat cells produce estrogen), increased calorie density in modern diets, and hormonal residues from conventionally raised meat and dairy. When a child grows up with very limited exposure to processed foods and synthetic chemicals, their growth pattern is noticeably slower and more biologically natural…which is why some kids raised fully organic hit puberty later.
So the trend isn’t a mystery. It’s the cumulative hormonal “background noise” of modern life…everything from parabens in lotions to BPA in plastics to phthalates in detergents. Earlier puberty is one of the clearest signals of how much these chemicals impact child development.

One of the last pictures of 12-year-old Emma Brown and her father, 38-year-old Daniel Brown.
On the same day after the picture was taken, Emma shot her father in the abdomen before shooting herself in the head.
Daniel survived, but Emma died two days later in the hospital.
Emma had plotted to kill her entire family and pets in a 'murder pact' with a friend.
In 2014, 24-year-old Daniela Liverani from Edinburgh had been having frequent nosebleeds for weeks.
She thought the nosebleeds were from a burst blood vessel caused by a motorcycle she had been involved in.
But a couple of days later, whilst taking a shower, she began to feel something in her nose move.
And as she got out of the shower to look in the mirror, she could see something sticking out of her nostril.
After seeing this, she rushed to the hospital, where doctors informed her that a 3-inch leech had been living inside her nostril, which they promptly removed.
