I'm a firm believer in the Power of Proximity...
--> Surround yourself with people chasing and/or who have accomplished the same goals as you.
Want to:
Be an entrepreneur?
-hang out with business owners
Lose weight?
-hang out with fitness fanatics at the gym
Learn to farm?
-hang out at the elevator/coffee shop with long time farmers
Stop drinking?
-hang out with sober people NOT in the bar
Play an instrument?
-hang out with musicians
You get the gist...
It seems obvious & simple, but I find myself not doing that all the time.
I want to get in shape & then spend a bunch of time hanging out with people allergic to weights...
and wonder why my pants are still tight.
The core group of my non-family friends ought to have values & goals aligned with mine.
And keep me accountable.
When I do that, hitting my goals is magically easier.
*This post is ultimately a reminder to myself to dial in who I'm surrounding myself with... So, it's OK if you disagree or think it's cringey.
Captain for the yacht we rented at the lake of the Ozarks….owned a couple thousand acres in Illinois and just cash rents it out and plays at the lake.
He’s got it figured out.
I struggle with this. Always wanting more and trying to compare myself to where my peers are at…
My wife always brings me back. And calms my heart. I don’t deserve the love and support she gives me.
So many people are ADDICTED to a frantic pace of life.
•Never present
•Always anxious & stressed
•Wearing busy like a badge of honor
Their flex is how many zeroes are in their bank account but it’s NEVER enough & they are never happy.
•A fit body.
•A calm mind.
•A home full of laughter & love.
These elude even the wealthiest in the world.
Seek these over money.
At this point Ag Twitter is so stupid. It's noting but armchair farmers and people egotistically patting themselves on the back. Anything that goes right on your Farm is a blessing from GOD. Be humble and thankful to the creator, in everything you do
I always thought that if I owned land free and clear I’d love to try it. Rotational grazing covers all while having the pivot to irrigate. Cows might not be the most profitable but sheep or goats could be on a per acre basis.
My dad passed away seven years ago.
He was perfectly healthy until one day he wasn't.
The biggest blessing he gave me was that he was always there.
My dad owned a small business and was quite successful.
He also choose not to continue to expand so he could spend more time with me, my brothers, and my mom.
The money wasn't the end goal for him.
It allowed him to coach my baseball teams, be at important life events, and teach me everything he knew.
I tell you this because when my dad got sick, I remember telling him the thing I appreciated the most was that "he was always there".
It wasn't the house we lived in.
It wasn't the car he bought me at 16.
It wasn't the travel baseball teams he paid for.
It was that he was there, present in my life.
My dad passed away too soon but I appreciate now more than ever the times I get to spend with my kids. I realize the importance of those memories. I know that one day I won't be able to tell how much I love them.
This weekend was a perfect example, a dad/son trip.
We fished.
We talked about life.
We learned about Jesus.
It was everything that mattered.
So remember my friends, there will come a day when everyone's time on this Earth runs out. It is your choice how you spend that time. Use it wisely.
@SuitUpVarsity I always thought the gym in Fairfield was special. Had to play a game there for varsity when I was a freshman because we lost power at the high school. That was a game I’ll remember forever.
