🚨 A Historic Milestone for Humanitarian Assistance in Southwest State! 🚨
H.E. @Laftagareen has officially signed the Safeguarding Humanitarian Assistance Bill, marking a groundbreaking step toward ensuring transparency, accountability, and the effective delivery of aid in Southwest State.
According to the latest HNRP, approximately 6 million people in Somalia urgently require humanitarian assistance. Southwest State hosts the largest number of internally displaced persons (IDPs) and vulnerable host communities in the country, making this legislation particularly crucial.
Aid misuse worsens crises, costs lives and livelihoods. This bill aims to eliminate such challenges, ensuring that humanitarian assistance reaches those in need without barriers or interference.
We extend our deepest appreciation to:
✅ H.E. @Laftagareen for his bold leadership, including the waiving of license fees for humanitarian agencies to facilitate aid operations.
✅ @NasirArush & the Ministry of Humanitarian & Disaster Management for their tireless efforts in developing this bill through community consultations, field assessments, and research.
✅ Southwest State institutions, including the Cabinet and State Parliament, for their vital role in passing this bill.
Special recognition goes to @BaidoaMunicipal for its exemplary collaboration with humanitarian agencies. @Abdullahiwatiin, as District Commissioner, has set a strong example against aid diversion.
Our Deputy Director and HoP @alimak_klay had a remarkable speech at the launching event and emphasized GREDO's role in developing his initiative and that GREDO will continue to strengthen it's transparency and accountability for effective aid delivery.
Together, we strengthen governance, protect humanitarian assistance, and save lives!
