This matters. The focus on cognitive science as a teaching driver is brain-based. Learning takes place in and requires a whole lot more than a brain. Indeed you could say we need to re-focus on the whole child or young person as a learner.
@EAlbrecht77 A7: Taking a risk, just like we ask the kids to do! Smile, enthusiasm, and passion! And a little fake it 'til you make it! @ealbrecht77 @K_T_Bee#20wildcardgpde
@EAlbrecht77 A7: I think the most important part is to JUST start. Find one thing you are willing to try and have the mindset to keep trying. @ealbrecht77 @Ktbhiggins#20wildcardgpde
@ktbhiggins It might be easier to step out of the comfort zone behind a screen! I'm so excited for a room transformation, but it might be an office transformation and dress the theme. The kids would love to dress up too! @ealbrecht77 @K_T_Bee#20wildcardgpde
@ktbhiggins A6 If this is the route we go, I want to engage students in more projects to demonstrate their learning rather than completing Seesaw activities to show all learning. Creating more video lessons with themes or dressing up as well! @EAlbrecht77 @ktbhiggins#20wildcardgpde
@ktbhiggins A6: I plan to use my communication with families to figure out what my students are into and put their interests into my teaching. I'm thinking I can do different costumes to go with read aloud's and fun themes for my morning meetings. @ealbrecht77 @Ktbhiggins#20wildcardgpde
@ktbhiggins Being a role model for young people is my “why.” I’ve never had a student thank me for the content I taught. But students will take time to let teachers know how much they appreciated our love and care. That is why I prioritize building relationships! #20wildcardgpde
@ktbhiggins @ealbrecht77 @Ktbhiggins A4: My "why" is all about making every child feel loved and important. This motivates me to respond to them individually with care and really listen and affirm what they have to say to help build up their self-worth. #20wildcardgpde
@EAlbrecht77 A3: The most challenging E is empowerment. It can be difficult to get first graders to feel a sense of ownership of their learning and want to learn more. I will overcome this by giving my students more choices and having them set goals for themselves. #20wildcardgpde
@EAlbrecht77 A3: Empowerment...I have a hard time handing over the reigns to the kids. I need to give them some control over their learning because that is key in their engagement. I've got to focus on their individual strengths more. @ealbrecht77 @K_T_Bee#20wildcardgpde
@EAlbrecht77 @ealbrecht77 @K_T_Bee A3: Energy has been the most challenging since I find it hard to consistently bring an upbeat and positive energy every day. I can overcome this by making time for myself so that I can be there for my students. #20wildcardgpde
@ktbhiggins A2: I work hard to keep a work/life balance because I can easily get overwhelmed. I need to remember that I can make small changes and still improve class engagement. @ealbrecht77 @K_T_Bee#20wildcardgpde
