See, the first frame ruins the entire message if you understand anything about food preservation. traditionally made hot dogs can look exactly like the left hand sausage with no problem, and most sausages like the one on the right would have contained sodium nitrate and nitrite in the form of saltpeter hundreds of years ago through today.

Nitrates and nitrites are good. They inhibit clostridium botulinum from producing the botulism toxin. Chemicals aren't always bad. A lot of times they are, but this is one area I believe in nuance over simplicity.
