The Baha’i International Community is appalled at the baseless and unjust imprisonment of senior #Baha’i dignitary Remy Rowhani at the airport in #Qatar this morning. Remy Rowhani is a respected Qatari citizen and chairperson of the Assembly of the Baha'is of Qatar who served his country with distinction for decades—most recently as Director of the International Chamber of Commerce’s MENA regional office @ICC_Qatar@iccwbo. In April 2021, a Qatari court framed Mr. Rowhani in a prejudicial case judged in absentia. The ruling was confirmed in May 2022 by an appeals court. Qatari officials had indicated Mr Rowhani’s one-month prison sentence and $27,000 fine would not be enforced and that he was free to travel. Today’s actions mark an arbitrary escalation after decades of discrimination against the Baha’is for their religion. Mr Rowhani must be released immediately and the discrimination must be brought to an end.
Extreme heat in Asia made much much more likely & intense by climate change. Sounds like a broken record - yes! But heat is still underreported, underrecorded and extremely deadly! The world is not prepared for today's climate change, let alone the future. https://t.co/cRcz5ygRqw
The recent deadly heatwave in the Sahel and West Africa with temperatures above 45°C would not have been possible without human-caused climate change 📈
Our study highlights the urgent need for heat planning and preparedness across the region.

Um, this chart is from @BMcNoldy at the Univ of Miami. It shows incredibly hot--almost hot-tub hot--ocean water.
He said: "I'm not sure I've ever seen the water around Florida look like this...at any time of year."

Amb Dasgupta was a champion of the Global South in climate negotiations. His grace and intellect elicited respect from adversaries and friends alike. His account of engaging in climate negotiations in early 1999s is well worth a read. CPR will miss him.

Huge congrats to everyone who finally got this climate deal done — in the Senate, the White House and everywhere else. It will be a game changer, reviving US climate leadership. Now let’s finish the job, get the bill on the President’s desk and ramp up global action for COP 27.
