Account is a hot mess of HLA, immunogenetics, ABO, transplant, healthcare, laboratory medicine, education, politics, and YEG (she/her). Living kidney donor-2022
Living kidney donation! A thread...I have been quiet about something for a while now but I think it’s time to spill the beans! Earlier this year I was a living kidney donor. #transplant#donation
This is incredibly important info (and their clinicians) for WOMEN with Heart Health issues particularly due to the increased prevalence of depression in women with heart events and Beta Blockers being part of evidence based medicine post MIs !!! @CWHHAlliance@abwomenshealth@HeartDocSharon@HeartandStroke

Here's a piece of literature by me, suitable for seventeen-year-olds in Alberta schools, unlike -- we are told -- The Handmaid's Tale. (Sorry, kids; your Minister of Education thinks you are stupid babies.)
John and Mary were both very, very good children. They never picked their noses or had bowel movements or zits. They grew up and married each other, and produced five perfect children without ever having sex. Although they claimed to be Christian, they paid no attention to what Jesus actually said about the poor and the Good Samaritan and forgiving your enemies and such; instead, they practised selfish rapacious capitalism, because they worshipped Ayn Rand. (Though they ignored the scene in The Fountainhead where “welcomed rape” is advocated, because who wants to dwell, and also that would have involved sex and would de facto be pornographic. Well, it kind of is, eh?) Oh, and they never died, because who wants to dwell on, you know, death and corpses and yuk? So they lived happily ever after. But while they were doing that The Handmaid’s Tale came true and Danielle Smith found herself with a nice new blue dress but no job. The end.
RFK Jr is an evil man. He is a dangerous purveyor of health disinformation. If you believe him, you’re a fool. The damage he is doing to healthcare in the US and global public health is incalculable.
Agree- very hard to understand non-HLA antibodies without defining positive thresholds and understanding false positive reactivity. Also, let’s look at female and pediatric populations next. Likely more complex. Other non-HLA assays completely lack necessary controls. #transplant
Testing controls demonstrates a high prevalence of non-HLA antibody positivity using pre-defined cutoff threshold in a bead-based assay using healthy control population @MayoTransplant

U of C economist @trevortombe demolishes separatist economic claims and points out that they seem to be planning to grab the pension savings of all Albertans. It’s not your money, separatists! #HandsOffOurPensions

In Alberta, a 14 year old can consent to sex with an adult but can't read, "Are you there, God? It's me, Margaret." because it talks about periods.

First time attending @CIC_ChemInst.
As an immunologist, I’m a little out of my element! But learning new things.
Looking forward to some glycan fun today. If you are attending #CSC2025 and want to connect the dots between glycans and transplantation, see you in room 106 today
While the Premier is fanning the flames of separatism to score political points with her base, let's take a look at 10 of things she is trying to distract Albertans from. #ableg
Let's do this as a thread since we can't cover it all in one tweet 🧵
Albertans should be paying attention and be VERY concerned:
Govt is marching forward with privatizing all of our HC system.
Many many concerns w selling off hospitals to private for-profits:

This collaborative work highlights the use of a new ABO antibody detection tool to expand donor options for ABO-O and ABO-B #transplant patients. We already use a single antigen bead-based approach for HLA antibodies. The time is now for ABO-histocompatibility.

Take a moment to read "Multiplex bead immunoassay in ABO-A2-incompatible kidney transplantation" by Halpin et al., accompanied here by a visual abstract. This article is available to read in press: https://t.co/whzDNKb8DY

This publication reflects many years of development and validation. Stay tuned for more data showing the excellent reproducibility of this test, its application in other patient populations, and other organ recipient groups.
