Hamcrest

Hamcrest is a library of matchers that can be combined in to create flexible expressions of intent in tests.

[Hamcrest @hamcrest]

@testrightnl for example, that would not work when used with jMock or Mockito because they assume that Matchers are immutable

[Hamcrest @hamcrest]

@testrightnl the add method mutates the state of the collector (which is also a matcher). The matches method does too.

[Hamcrest @hamcrest]

@testrightnl we experimented with chaining a few times but found the generics never worked out conveniently. Maybe Java8 is better

[Hamcrest @hamcrest]

@testrightnl Matchers are expected to be immutable, so the chaining functions should return new matchers, not mutate this

Writing tests with good custom hamcrest matchers almost looks like cheating at times.

Hamcrest is so useful. The only way it could be better if it was called Baconcrest. http://t.co/ccfGlf6HhM
