What an Orwellian world we live in. Israel launches a clearly illegal and unprovoked attack on Iran, in violation of the U.N. charter, and with no imminent Iran attack in sight, or any Iranian nukes developed, and its western allies come out to say they reaffirm *Israel’s* right to defend itself, not Iran’s. The aggressor’s, not the victim of the illegal attack.
This, I guess, is the west’s ’rules-based international order.’

Summary of UNSC Resolution 487 (1981) –which was unanimously adopted after Israel attacked Iraq’s Osirak research reactor on June 7 1981 :

•Condemned the military attack by Israel on the Iraqi nuclear installation as a clear violation of the Charter of the United Nations.
•Recognized that Iraq was a party to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT), and that the IAEA had conducted inspections at the facility.
•Called upon Israel to refrain from such acts or threats of aggression in the future.
•Stated Iraq had the right to establish and develop nuclear programs for peaceful purposes.
•Called for Israel to place its own nuclear facilities under IAEA safeguards.
