@R44D I’m not sure about this one, recently Americans seem to have much more of a herd mentality than I’ve ever seen in Japan, and a more aggressive form at that.
@R44D@kriheli Lived in Osaka/Kyoto/Kobe, that’s just not true. There’s absolutely no way a train in Osaka is quieter than Tokyo for a start, but everyone’s on a phone and/or listening to music exactly so they don’t have to contemplate anything.
@GearoidReidy I can confirm, this is my morning Tokyo commute during rush hour. Once the seats are full everyone stays lined up on the platform waiting for the next train, while quietly contemplating the ephemeral nature of existence.
@terrence_mccoy I've been posting this for a few days: At first, I canceled my subscription. But upon reflection, I realized that it hurts no one but us and the dedicated journalists who work every day to bring us news. Instead, I canceled Amazon Prime. I need the WaPo. But I don't need Amazon.
@Toky02 What was that quote about journalism’s job not to give both sides the same time about whether it’s raining or not, but to look out the window and report the facts?
@TinEpic @BasedGaijin With so many requests, what would happen if they at least actually created a vegetarian menu item?? Japan always looks at the negative, not the positive. “Damn, there are too many customers, how can I fix that?”
@hikosaemon And the media did their best to amplify the message, rolling out the Tokyo U profs saying it is the end of the world, and if Tokyo U says so, everyone better believe!!
@kizzy224 @ryohtarohsatoh Maybe now that a bunch of old geezers say it should change (for the sake of the economy, not for women, have to make that clear) maybe the government might do something about it?!
@MaderaiAs @mrjeffu That would have required them to admit that an ‘inferior’ race could beat Japan, but I’m sure it was justified by those with their snouts in the money trough spending more money to stop it happening again.
@TheCurlyAfro2@hikosaemon Yeah, probably built like the way those grids were 50 years ago. That was a big issue after Fukushima, with the different power frequencies in East and West. The suggestions to deal with it probably went in the ‘too hard’ basket.
@syrupmermaid@xizzhu Same reply though, as not all the days in gw are public holidays either, but I think you meant to point out that it’s not the number of leave days per se, as no one actually takes all their entitlement anyway.
