We did it!

We, alongside @DhruvaSpace, @sat_sure, and @PixxelSpace, have won the IN-SPACe proposal to design, build, and operate India’s first fully indigenous commercial Earth Observation satellite constellation under the Public-Private Partnership model, a mission backed by an investment of over ₹1,200 crore.

We are proud to lead with our SAR expertise in this historic mission for the country’s space sector, and grateful to Pawan Goenka, @INSPACeIND , the Government of India, and our partners for their trust.

The fish are on vacation… and it’s well-deserved!! 🐬

Starting today, India’s 61-day annual fishing ban begins on the East Coast (Apr 15–Jun 14) with the West Coast (Jun 1–Jul 31) following soon. This pause gives our oceans a chance to rest, recover, and repopulate, especially during the critical breeding season.

Coastal regions like Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and the Andaman & Nicobar Islands are all part of this conservation effort. Over the past 12 years, many of these states have seen a steady climb in fish production — with Andhra Pradesh taking the lead, crossing 5000 thousand tonnes. That growth is no accident — it reflects what happens when policy, pause, and patience come together.

But here’s the catch (pun intended):
Even during the ban, IUU (Illegal, Unreported, and Unregulated) fishing doesn’t stop. Some vessels operate in the shadows, undermining the very goals of this seasonal break.
That’s where we come in. At PierSight, we’re building a constellation of satellites designed to monitor and detect maritime activity in near real-time — even in the darkest corners of the ocean. From spotting dark ships to flagging suspicious behavior, we’re helping protect what matters — our oceans and the communities that depend on them.

Let’s give the fish a break — they’ve earned it.
And with tech from above, let’s make sure everyone plays by the rules.

In his session, 'Tech in Action: From Space to Sea - Pioneering Maritime Surveillance' at #NTC2024, Hamish D'Souza, Geospatial Data Scientist at @piersightspace, highlights the challenges posed by 'dark ships'—vessels that withhold their information and often engage in illegal activities.

He explains, 'Real-time visibility of the oceans doesn't exist, which allows many illicit activities to go unnoticed.' Hamish also shares insights on a satellite under development, set to improve maritime surveillance and enhance security at sea.

About a year ago I was second investor in a brand-new satellite startup in India 🇮🇳

A year later they are already sending up their first prototype to space. If everything goes well their satellite fleet will soon follow and customers are lined up.

No idea how the founders do it, but this is insane speed for spacetech.
