The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques @KingSalman and HRH Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman congratulate President of the Federal Republic of Somalia Dr. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud on his country's Independence Day.

@osmando You’re clearly viewing this through a clan lens, supporting Hassan Shaikh just because he’s from your clan, regardless of whether he’s right or wrong.
It has been more than two days that the supply of electricity to Gaza has been shut off. It must resume — essentials including food, electricity, and medical supplies should never be used as political tools.
Canada must work with our allies to stand up for international law to promote sustainable peace and security in the Middle East and to support full access to humanitarian aid for Palestinian families.
As this work continues, both parties must work towards the return of all hostages and the completion of the ceasefire agreement.
President Trump's proposed forced displacement of Palestinians from Gaza is deeply disturbing. It would violate the rights of Palestinians and international law, and it would set back efforts to promote peace and security for all in the region.
I support the hard work of reaching a two-state solution, with a viable and free Palestinian state living side by side in peace and security with the state of Israel.
The priority must be the completion of the first phase of the ceasefire and massive support for Palestinian families in Gaza in rebuilding their homes and lives.
Have you ever witnessed a game where the player is also the referee? Well, that's precisely what's happening in Somalia. President @HassanSMohamud has unilaterally changed the constitution, enacted electoral and party laws on his own & handpicked an electoral commission which will be financed through the illegal sale of government-owned land. It is crucial to heed the advice of leaders who have observed a similar scenarios in the past. @UNTMIS_@UKinSomalia@US2SOMALIA@ItalyinSomalia@SwedeninSomalia@EU_in_Somalia@GermanyinSOM@NLinSomalia
Somali and Ethiopian elites were divided how to approach the new conflict which came to the forefront after Ethiopia signed MoU offering naval base with former President of Somaliland. No doubt, that this MoU was an overstep and threat to Somalia's territorial integrity. Somali people wherever they live rejected the deal. After almost a year of diplomatic wrangling and severing relations, Ankara Declaration, brokered by Turkish President Erdoğan, defused the crisis.
The visit of President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud to Addis Ababa and fanfare welcoming may indicate a reduction of the tension and restoration of relations between the two states. However, the Somali public remains cautious and suspicious given Ethiopia's long history of annexing parts of Somali territory, military interventions and its strategy of getting footstep in the strategic red sea. Therefore, Somali people seek more than just diplomatic gestures from the two leaders, they demand tangible actions that show Ethiopia’s commitment to Somalias sovereignty and to demonstrate genuine goodwill and respect for Somalia’s territorial integrity.
The sad truth: Somali political elites preach patriotism while their families thrive abroad in peace and luxury. Meanwhile, ordinary Somalis bear the brunt of instability and underdevelopment. Leadership should mean sacrifice, not self-interest. #Somalia#Accountability
A troubling and alarming similarity between the political elites/rulers of the five NFD counties in Northern Kenya (Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, Isiolo, and Marsabit) and Somalia is interesting to note. It also needs urgent redress. It also helps one understand the predatory nature of pastoralists' political elites and their slash and burn attitude towards governance and accountability. In Somalia, right from President Hassan Sheikh, PM Hamza, and the entire cabinet and everyone running government have their wives and children domiciled either in America, Europe, Africa (Egypt in the case of PM) Middle East or Nairobi. Somalia is essentially run by Somali expatriates with foreign nationalities who repatriate even their salaries to capitals where their families live. In the five NFD counties of Kenya, right from governors, deputy governors, mps, Senators, women representatives and MCAs, none resides or is domiciled in the five counties...and none has his/her kids going to schools in the five counties. All stay with their wives and husbands in Nairobi. Shouldn't this phenomenon of the pastoralist political elite seeing their country/counties as a place where they mine/exploit and then live and invest somewhere else interest anthropologists and donors? Isn't there need to study and remedy the superficial and tenuous attachment of pastoralists tribesmen to his constituencies? Shouldn't Western Donors who pay the salaries of Somali politician not insist that their wives and children must be domiciled in Mogadishu before they disbursement funds? Similarly, how can a governor/mp/senator/women representatives who live in leafy suburbs of Muthaiga/Karen/Runda of Nairobi remotely be conscious of the needs of the impoverished subject in Takaba/Tarbaj/Habasweyn/Garbatula?
Considering the centuries of religious and territorial conflicts, two major wars, at least four decades of hostile policies/direct meddling by Ethiopia, and the currently poor state of relations between the two countries, I believe that president Hassan Sheikh was il-advised to travel to Addis Ababa at this time.
In the short term, steps should include empowering the Council of Ministers/key missions, appointing a Foreign Minister, and considering to take the case with Ethiopia to non-African Union platforms, particularly to the UN Security Council. Over the long term, Somalia must formulate a comprehensive policy to effectively manage its relationship with Addis Ababa.
IF @HamzaAbdiBarre does not congratulate PL on this great day -- which shall be known henceforth as Puntland Day -- then the title of "secretary to the President" will hold some water.
Our PM needs to show us that he can think for himself. Ina Adeer is xureey!
#PuntlandDecides
The President of Mogadishu Hassan Shaikh and his PM Hamza can’t fathom the idea that Puntland is moving towards a democratic system and implement for the first time in more than half a century, a state wide “one person, one vote” municipal elections.
As expected, the tripartite alliance has launched a two-pronged attack:
1. Militias blocking the transportation of ballot boxes to Bari region.
2. Somaliland forces shelling #Laascaanood and launching ground attack.
3. Hamza/HSM allegedly stoking the two, above.
