If we want the "very best" to stay in schools so students can learn from them, reducing teacher workload needs to be a higher priority for the DoE. The idea we have low expectations of our students is an extremely ungenerous view of the profession.
A "culture of low expectations" is preventing children from getting good results in Maths and English, former education secretary, Lord Gove.
He adds "It is a moral imperative for this country to demand that we end illiteracy and innumeracy."

@nsdmorrison For some it's such a shame as well - I've taught a number of students for whom getting a 3 was the result of some dedicated work in tough circumstances, yet their achievement is viewed as "lesser"
@MBDscience@LucyMPowell Say it louder for the people at the back! A grade 1 - 3 at GCSE is still a pass, and is still a qualification - if we determine that this doesn't demonstrate a sufficient level of skill that's a problem with the qualification, not the students taking it
Good luck to all teachers and students getting GCSE results tomorrow! Can't wait to see what my year 11s got, they worked so hard all year, hopefully that will translate into grades!
@andrewwarnerkms@RogersHistory I've never taught at a school that wasn't set in year 9 unless it was selective on entry - what subject do you teach? Are all subjects mixed ability at your school? How do you find it?
Only 24% of Aโlevel Physics entrants are girls. A colleague suggests shifting specialist teaching to Y7 - 9 instead of GCSE/Aโlevel. It fits the research, but would early focus risk lower attainment or enjoyment later? #PhysicsEd#KS3Science#GirlsInSTEM
Missing the buzz of being on the front line of Results Day this year - the nervous waits, the happy tears and the "what happens next" conversations.
Teachers: how has today gone for you? ๐

Year 10 student shocked today to discover yes, there are in fact more than 2 equations in #GCSE Physics! What are your most ridiculous student realisations #teachertwitter...
@RogersHistory Love a notes booklet - lots of gaps for students to fill in BUT I like being able to choose my own activities around that core. Means all students get the same content without removing teacher individuality
@smithsmm I think this is so important - teachers didn't become teachers for an easy life so we need to treat them as what they are, highly qualified professionals

At my former school, collecting and locking away phones worked for 90% of pupils, but dummy or โforgottenโ phones took up staff time. Have lockable pouches reduced phone use without adding workload, or have pupils found ways around them?
@RogersHistory How can we shift the accountability to parents and students without letting the student fail? The fines seem to have had little impact - any ideas?
@1917AndAllThat I agree it was โbasedโ on sound principles - theyโre not wrong - you canโt learn in a chaotic classroom, but how far the school was prepared to go to achieve their goals was just so draconian.
