Mohamedin Mohamed Abdelrahim, a trader from the Gir neighborhood, has tragically passed away in the RSF-run Degeriss Prison under unclear circumstances. He was arrested back in December 2024 and initially held at the former General Intelligence Service facility in Nyala before being moved to Degeriss. His family has been unable to visit him and lost all contact, and they still haven't received his body.

Reports keep surfacing that members of the Zaghawa, Fur, Massalit, and other indigenous communities in areas controlled by the RSF are facing arbitrary detentions, torture, intimidation, killings, and other serious human rights abuses. There is an urgent need for independent investigations and accountability.

According to reliable sources, the Deputy Commander of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), Abdelrahim Dagalo, is reported to have traveled to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, yesterday. However, his presence there has not yet been independently confirmed. The reports indicate that he may still be in Addis Ababa, despite the sanctions recently imposed on him by the United Nations Security Council.
Abdelrahim Dagalo has been widely accused of playing a central role in the atrocities committed in El Fasher, as well as in the ongoing violence in Dar Zaghawa. He has also been linked by various sources to the recent massacre in Mastariha, which took place a few days ago.
If confirmed, such a visit would likely raise further questions regarding accountability and the enforcement of international sanctions

On 28 December, the RSF reportedly carried out deliberate drone strikes against mini-trucks transporting civilians who had fled Um-Baro and were seeking refuge in the Kari-Yari IDPs camp . All civilians on board were killed, the majority of them women and children.
The drone strikes occurred in the context of large-scale and coordinated attacks launched by the RSF on Christmas Eve against civilian populations in the Dar Zaghawa area, which are ongoing. “After the RSF took control of #ElFasher , we decided to flee the city in search of safety. While we were running, we were intercepted by RSF elements who ordered us to sit down. We obeyed immediately.

As soon as we sat, they began beating us and shouting racist insults at us, calling us ‘slaves,’ ‘Nawab,’ ‘Fallata,’ and other abusive terms.

After the beating, they ordered us to run. As we started running, they opened fire on us from behind. Most of the group was shot and killed. Only a few of us managed to escape.”

HAND Calls for Urgent International Action Following Reports of Grave Violations in El Fasher and Surrounding Areas
The Human Rights and Advocacy Network for Democracy (HAND) expresses deep concern over the severe deterioration of the humanitarian and security situation in #ElFasher and nearby villages following the reported takeover of the area by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on 24–25 November.
Survivors who recently fled the affected areas have reported significant loss of civilian life, numerous injuries, and large numbers of individuals who remain unaccounted for. According to these accounts, many families continue to search for missing relatives, with no information available regarding their whereabouts.
Testimonies collected from survivors also include reports of sexual violence, including allegations of rape and sexual enslavement affecting women and girls. Additionally, multiple accounts describe children from Indigenous communities, including the Zaghawa, Fur, and others, being forcibly taken and compelled to perform labor under coercive or abusive conditions. Some survivors allege that these children are being used as laborers by armed militia groups affiliated with the RSF.
Further information indicates that farmland belonging to local Indigenous communities has been used without consent, with militia-owned livestock grazing on cultivated land, destroying crops and jeopardizing livelihoods.
HAND notes that independent verification of these reports remains challenging due to restricted access and ongoing insecurity. Nonetheless, the consistency of survivor testimonies underscores the urgent need for immediate, impartial assessment and protection measures for affected civilians.
HAND is calling on the UN, the AU, the US Government, and the EU to:
Initiate an independent investigation into the reported violations.
Ensure the protection of civilians, particularly women, children, and displaced persons.
Support unhindered humanitarian access to deliver essential aid.

Promote adherence to international human rights and humanitarian law by all parties.

Implement diplomatic measures to prevent further escalation and protect vulnerable communities.

HAND remains committed to advocating for the rights and safety of civilians and urges the international community to take immediate steps to address the situation.

Meanwhile, the Commander-in-Chief of the RSF has announced a unilateral ceasefire, yet RSF forces on the ground continue to target civilians on an ethnic basis. On Sunday, around midnight, RSF elements in Kabkabiya town, North Darfur, reportedly shot and killed two brothers and their friend.
According to relatives, the victims — Abdellatif Abdalla Shamseldin and Abdelwahab Abdalla Shamseldin — were escorting their friend home when they were intercepted by RSF fighters, who opened fire on all three. All of them died at the scene.

Since November 2024, credible information indicates that he has been personally involved in planning and directing attacks against civilians in El Fasher and the Zamzam IDPs camp
According to a reliable source within the RSF, Abdelrahim Dagalo issued direct orders to his field commanders to target and kill civilians on an ethnic basis, particularly members of the Zaghawa community.
As such, Abdelrahim Dagalo bears individual and command responsibility for all crimes committed against civilians in El Fasher, including acts that may constitute war crimes, crimes against humanity, genocide,and ethnic cleansing under international law.

According to reliable sources, the RSF have secretly moved nearly 800 detainees from #ElFasher to Nyala in South Darfur. This group, primarily made up of civilians, was transferred under heavy security and placed in Degries Prison, known as one of the most brutal maximum security facilities in the area.
Inside the prison, the situation is described as dire. Detainees are reportedly dying every day due to a severe shortage of food, clean water, and basic sanitation. The cells are overcrowded, diseases spread rapidly, and there’s no access to medical care. Survivors recount how people are left to suffer, with many collapsing from hunger, dehydration, or untreated illnesses.
The RSF operates without any recognized law enforcement; there are no prosecutors, no functioning courts, and no judicial oversight. They continue to hold these detainees in conditions that amount to a death sentence. With no legal process and no accountability, thousands of civilians remain trapped in RSF detention centres across Darfur, waiting in silence as the death toll continues to rise.

HAND Condemns RSF Attack on Zamzam IDP Camp in North Darfur
The Human Rights and Advocacy Network for Democracy (HAND) strongly condemns the brutal attack by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on Zamzam internally displaced persons (IDP) camp in North Darfur on February 10, 2025. Located just 17 kilometers from El Fasher, Zamzam shelters approximately half a million displaced people, many of whom have already endured horrific violence.
Since December 1, 2023, the RSF has relentlessly bombarded Zamzam with indiscriminate rocket fire, killing and injuring civilians, including women, children, and the elderly. Homes and vital infrastructure have been destroyed, and the February 10 assault led to multiple deaths and the complete destruction of the camp’s main market.
This attack was further enabled by a deliberate disinformation campaign orchestrated by RSF-affiliated groups and NGOs, who falsely claimed on November 14, 2023, that Joint Partners’ forces were present in Zamzam. This fabricated narrative was used as a pretext for the RSF’s unprovoked assault on innocent civilians.
HAND holds the RSF fully responsible for these crimes and calls on the international and regional communities to take urgent action. Immediate measures are needed to protect civilians, prevent further atrocities, and ensure accountability for those responsible for these grave violations.

Drone Strike on Al-Saudi Hospital in El Fasher Leaves 30 Dead, Many Injured
El Fasher, Sudan– A drone strike carried out by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on Al-Saudi Hospital in El Fasher on Thursday evening has left at least 30 patients dead and many others injured, according to the Coordination of El Fasher Resistance Committees. The attack, which occurred at 8:30 PM, completely destroyed the hospital’s emergency section. Al-Saudi Hospital was the only functioning medical facility providing care to the besieged population of El Fasher.
This incident marks yet another escalation in the RSF’s systematic targeting of civilians and civilian properties in the city. Since the outbreak of war in El Fasher, the RSF has been accused of deliberately attacking hospitals, schools, homes, and places of worship.
Earlier that same day, the RSF launched a large-scale attack on El Fasher from five directions, employing ground forces and heavy artillery. The attack caused significant civilian casualties, including women, children, and elderly individuals, adding to the mounting toll of the ongoing conflict.
Humanitarian organizations and rights groups have called for urgent international intervention to protect civilians and prevent further atrocities in El Fasher, warning of the potential for genocide.

HAND Condemns Systematic Attacks on Civilians in Zamzam IDP Camp and Calls for International Action
The Human Rights and Advocacy Network for Democracy (HAND) is deeply alarmed by the continued atrocities committed by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) against civilians in Darfur. On January 11, 2025, the RSF launched a heinous attack on the Zamzam Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) Camp, located 20 kilometers southwest of El Fasher, Darfur. Eyewitnesses report that barrages of rockets fired by the RSF struck the camp’s market and surrounding areas, killing 16 civilians—including women, children, and the elderly—and leaving 43 others seriously injured.
Since December 1, 2024, the RSF has engaged in indiscriminate rocket attacks targeting civilians in Zamzam and other areas in North Darfur. These systematic assaults have caused hundreds of deaths and injuries, disproportionately affecting vulnerable populations, including children, women, and elderly people. The attacks have also led to the widespread destruction of civilian property.
The deliberate targeting of civilians in Zamzam appears to be part of a broader campaign to forcibly depopulate the area of its indigenous population. Such acts may amount to crimes against humanity and genocide.
HAND unequivocally condemns these atrocities and calls on the international community to urgently intervene to prevent further escalation and recurrence of mass atrocities in Darfur. We urge the United Nations, the African Union, and all relevant international bodies to take immediate action to hold the RSF accountable and to ensure the protection of civilians in Zamzam and other affected areas.
The world cannot stand idly by as history threatens to repeat itself in Darfur. Now is the time to act decisively to safeguard human lives and uphold international justice.

On January 11, 2025, the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) carried out a serious attack on the Zamzam camps in El Fasher, Darfur, where many people were living after being displaced. This attack resulted in the deaths of 16 civilians, including children, women, and older people, and left 43 others hurt. The RSF fired rockets into the camp, putting innocent lives and homes at risk.

This attack was not a one-time event; it was the eighth time the Zamzam camps had been targeted since some organizations connected to the RSF falsely claimed that joint forces were present there. These claims appeared to be a strategy to justify the attacks. As a result, the RSF has continued to strike the Zamzam camps, causing more loss of life, destruction, and forcing more vulnerable people to leave their homes.

Statement on the RAF's Targeting of Civilians in El Fasher on December 15,
December 16, 2024
Human Rights and Advocacy Network for Democracy (HAND), strongly condemns the recent drone airstrikes carried out by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on the besieged city of El Fasher, particularly in the densely populated Awlad Al-Reif neighborhood on December 15, these attacks, which employed sophisticated drones equipped with multiple rockets, have resulted in the tragic loss of 38 civilian lives, including children, women and elderly people. Local witnesses have described the strikes as brutal.
Since the onset of the conflict in El Fasher on May 10, 2024, the RSF has engaged in systematic and indiscriminate targeting of civilian areas through heavy artillery, shelling, and drone strikes. These actions have caused the deaths of hundreds of civilians, widespread destruction of hospitals, schools, places of worship, and civilian property, and have left the population of El Fasher in a state of despair.
The international community cannot remain silent in the face of these atrocities. HAND calls for urgent and decisive action to protect innocent civilians in El Fasher and across the Darfur region. We demand:
1. An immediate cessation of attacks on civilian areas by the RSF.
2. Accountability for those responsible for war crimes and crimes against humanity.
3. Increased international pressure on the RSF and its regional backers to end their support for these atrocities.
4. Support for humanitarian access to besieged areas to provide relief to those affected.
The deliberate targeting of civilians is a violation of international humanitarian law and constitutes war crimes. The world must act now to prevent further loss of life and uphold the principles of justice and human dignity.

Condemnation of the Abduction, Extortion, and Systematic Terrorization of IDPs in Kalma Camp by RSF-Affiliated Arab Militias
The Human Rights and Advocacy Network for Democracy (HAND) strongly condemns the abduction, extortion, and relentless targeting of four internally displaced persons (IDPs) near Kalma Camp by Arab militias backed by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). This despicable act is yet another clear illustration of the rampant lawlessness and culture of impunity imposed by the RSF in South Darfur.
According to verified reports, the abductors demanded a ransom of 3 million Sudanese pounds (approximately $1,300 USD) for the release of the victims. Fabricating baseless accusations of livestock theft, these militia groups weaponized false claims to justify their criminal behavior. Even after the pro-RSF police identified the perpetrators, they failed to act. Instead, under RSF influence, the leaders of Kalma Camp were forced to collect the ransom amount within 15 days to secure the release of the abductees, further underscoring the systematic extortion faced by the camp’s residents.
This atrocity is not an isolated incident but part of an ongoing campaign of terror, ethnic persecution, and exploitation targeting the predominantly tribe of Fur IDPs in Kalma Camp. Since 2002, these civilians have been displaced by the brutal conflict in Darfur, and today they are once again subjected to unimaginable suffering under the RSF’s brutal and oppressive rule.
Kalma Camp, home to hundreds of thousands of displaced individuals, has become a powder keg of insecurity. Its residents are subjected to daily threats, violence, and extortion by militias operating with RSF support and protection. This deliberate targeting of vulnerable IDPs constitutes a grave violation of international law and basic human rights and highlights the RSF’s complicity in fostering and enabling these crimes.
HAND demands an immediate end to the RSF’s collaboration with Arab militias and calls for the cessation of all violence against IDPs. The RSF leadership must be held accountable for orchestrating and perpetuating these heinous crimes.
The continued terrorization of Kalma Camp’s residents is an affront to humanity and a violation of the fundamental principles of justice, dignity, and human rights. The inaction of the global community has emboldened the perpetrators, enabling this reign of terror to persist.
We demand immediate and effective action to protect these vulnerable communities, dismantle the structures of impunity, and ensure that all those responsible faces the full force of international and domestic law.
The time to act is now. The world cannot stand idly by while Darfur’s IDPs endure unrelenting violence and abuse. Justice delayed is justice denied, and the people of Kalma Camp can no longer afford the price of inaction.

Statement on the Abu-Zerega Massacre

HAND condemns, in the strongest terms, the reported massacre carried out by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in Abu-Zerega and surrounding villages, located 40KM, South of Elfasher, on December 3, 2024. According to credible local reports, at least 22 civilians, predominantly from the Zaghawa tribe, were killed, with many others injured. This attack adds to a disturbing pattern of ethnically motivated violence perpetrated by the RSF, which has been accused of systematically targeting specific communities, including the Zaghawa, in Darfur.
These atrocities are not isolated incidents but part of a broader campaign of terror and impunity. Such acts may amount to war crimes, crimes against humanity, or even genocide, as they reflect deliberate attacks on unarmed civilians based on their ethnic identity. The international community’s silence risks enabling further atrocities.

We strongly condemn the recent attacks on Zamzam IDP camps and mourn the tragic loss of innocent lives. As representatives of the camp, we want to emphasize that we have no political affiliations or ties to any political groups. We are simply vulnerable IDPs striving to survive in difficult circumstances.

Additionally, we categorically state that there are no armed groups or leaders present in the camps. Any statements made under the name “Coordination of IDPs in Zamzam Camps” are not recognized by us. We urge those issuing such statements to identify themselves, as the High Administration of Zamzam Camp is the sole legitimate representative body for the camp
