Today, we continue the Journey of Water through the middle catchment of River Noolturesh as part of our annual sensitization campaign.
We're engaging communities, raising awareness on the importance of protecting our vital water sources, and promoting sustainable practices that ensure clean, flowing rivers for sustainable livelihoods.

The Journey of Water 4, A United Call for River Justice
The Journey of Water 4 marked a historic moment as the Governments of Tanzania and Kenya came together in unity to assess the health of River Kimengelia and River Nooltresh, two lifelines silently sustaining communities, cultures, and ecosystems across borders.
This bold collaboration laid bare the challenges choking these rivers:
1. Rampant pollution degrading water quality
2. Illegal abstractions threatening water access and equity
3. Disrupted river flow compromising ecosystems
4. Riparian encroachment robbing rivers of their natural space

@hannipher@Africa_WaterAmb There are regional institutions such as the East African Community, the Nile Basin Initiative that play a critical role in the governance of transboundary rivers, advocating for development of legal frameworks on transboundary water management through this institution is key.
@Africa_WaterAmb However much at the moment we do not have a transboundary law/policy between Kenya and Tanzania, for some cases, I believe we can bank on regulations such as the International Water Law.
In the face of Water crisis, how can Digital activism become a force that challenges power, mobilize communities and influence policy changes ?

Unchecked water abstraction in upper catchments, often for agriculture, industry, or cities, disrupts natural river flows. Downstream communities, livestock, and ecosystems are left dry.

Across East Africa, arid and semi-arid lands face a growing water crisis.
But the problem isn’t just drought. It’s also what’s happening upstream. 💧

Despite a court order requiring police officers to remain identifiable during protests, several have been spotted with their faces covered. The ruling was issued in response to rising cases of police brutality. @BBCAfrica
