You know what’s a really great feeling? Have you ever felt like you were universally connected with your fellow humans? Even in spite of things that demand our attention away from the fact that we are all deeply, humanly connected? #Olympics
Snow dust sightseeing with @thekevinalton, we came upon a lovely silver-lined cloud with light bursting out toward the ground below. B-Oh, heaven coming down! K-Ladders out its ass. Simultaneous appreciation, different words. Still a shared moment, adding laughter to beauty.
Nationalism keeps telling us
Christians to take up our swords and make our nation "Christian" by any means necessary.
Jesus keeps calling us Christians to take up our crosses and be like him, serving the world through grace, humility, compassion, and self sacrificial love.
For those of us with ADHD, the shame of its impact on our lives can be overwhelming.
It's like we inhabit a secret world, somehow managing to find a way to keep things going, despite the simplest tasks feeling gargantuan.
Most people don't understand this. I don't blame them for not understanding it; I just think they would be shocked if they could get a glimpse into how we think and live.
I have a confession to make
I support female pastors and equality between husbands and wives
And it’s time to admit…
I feel this way because I’ve been influenced by culture 🧵
I was as far right in my political and theological beliefs as a Christian one can imagine for the majority of my life.
As a fundamentalist evangelical Christian, homeschooled k-12, my beliefs about God, humanity, stricture, sin, and salvation were extreme in every way.🧵
@UMC_CommonSense I made this while in our annual conference. It’s pretty easy to win bc I didn’t feel like more difficulty would be desirable in the setting. What you’re asking about would make a good version of Bishop Bingo.
Dumb-one @FoodLion Carrying a keychain full of plastic tags was not enough inconvenience? Add crappy store Wi-Fi to install an app that will not work so 20 minute fiasco leads 2an invite for a kiosk hassle. Nope. Life is a hassle. Boo 2u @FoodLion Keep my $1 & jump in a lake.
As people are being groomed by public personas to loathe, fear and disrespect humans, wouldn't it be awesome and simple if people just used God-given curiosity to get off the emotional manipulation ride being perpetuated?
With an ADHD brain, I've learned that panic and overwhelm can be neutralized by curiosity. Brain wiring makes it nearly impossible to hold the two thoughts at the same time. The more you can say 'interesting, why would my brain be doing this?' the clearer you'll be able to think.
If you are hearing multitudes of voices telling you to protect against a person or a type of person (aka: fear, hate, dehumanizing) then you are listening to the wrong voice. Try the still small voice instead. Better result.
I hear so much in this brief thread that resonates deeply with my experience as a child who became a woman. I had to seek basic bodily information thru a lens of shame and inferiority that was so intrinsic to social interaction that no one ever had to state those tacit facts.
Hot take:
The evangelical world embraced the "Every Man's Battle" route to porn recovery (bounce your eyes away from women; try hard to not lust) because it didn't challenge them to grow emotionally or to view women as whole people.
They got to keep objectifying women.
