I told my students they shouldn't call me Professor Kuttivelil bc I am not a professor, I don't have my Ph.D. degree. I said they should call me Hari or Mr. K.
It's Week 6, and they've converged on Professor Hari, and I'm tired of correcting them.
It's me, Professor Hari.
I'm having a similar issue.
On the one hand, I could work at places where I make at least $1M a year.
On the other hand, very few people are integrated within tech companies to help prioritize addressing *fundamental issues* in the ethics of AI. (1/)
10k ppl have been killed by israel in the last 30 days. 4k of them are kids. the un calls gaza a graveyard of children. what is our government doing?
finding money under the mattress for more bombs to kill kids with & censuring the only palestinian congresswoman. moral depravity
I was on that bridge today, and while I can only speak for my own experience, I saw: 1) Many Jews proudly marching, and centering their religion 2) The crowd of Muslims and Christians around them responding with love and appreciation every time they did so
I’ve shared these before. This was 3 years ago today and I was in San Francisco when the sky turned an otherworldly orange due the widespread wildfire fires burning. These photos were all taken around noon and lights are on all over. Combined with deserted streets, this may have been the most surreal moment I’ve experienced
@YIMBYLAND That's an imposter account pretending to be the actual NotJustBikes guy, who left Twitter awhile ago. This account just trolls and y'all fell for it and spreading the misery
To be clear, at this time and for the foreseeable future, there does not exist any AI model or technique that could represent an extinction risk for humanity. Not even in nascent form, and not even if you extrapolate capabilities far into the future via scaling laws.
Kinda want to expand/pontificate on this from my POV:
I studied abroad in Aix-en-Provence, France for a semester in 2010. I instantly loved it -- walkable, charming, lots to see and do, local & long distance mass transit (I went to Paris twice on a student budget!). 1/?
Giving away those physical webcam switch things for laptops should be a crime. They damage your laptop because you can’t close it properly, just use tape or literally any other method but just don’t use those plastic things. At the very least it’s completely unaesthetic
To a degree it’s societal isn’t it? Does this look the same in other societies? In the US, most Americans are forced to move into suburbs and commute via cars making it unlikely for ppl to bump into friends and more difficult to hang out with friends. We end up almost isolated.
Students living in campers, 7-to-a-house, in garages or trailers parked in driveways. Here are some of the scenes I encountered exploring the student housing crisis in Santa Cruz, the nation's 2nd priciest rental market per @nlihc https://t.co/BANw342RAG
What happens when a college town makes student housing illegal? It becomes the least affordable small city in the country, with the highest per-capita rate of homelessness. https://t.co/KziCvWHF2S
