Claude Code with Opus 4.5 is a watershed moment, moving software creation from an artisanal, craftsman activity to a true industrial process.
It’s the Gutenberg press. The sewing machine. The photo camera.
@geordinhl@Springboks Be a bit better if you could check into why the water has been cut off in the South Peninsula for the umpteenth time this year. This feels to me like incompetence. Which is unfortunate.
At some point the developer community will discover that the inevitable end point of AI generated software is that it will simply generate machine code directly.
Coding languages are simply an abstraction to facilitate human reasoning.
This is probably a few decades away.
Hardy's law of planning:
The more backup plans you put in place the less likely you are to need them making all the effort seem like a waste.
Inverse law of planning:
Things are more likely to go wrong when you don't make backup plans.
Just as calculators and spreadsheets transitioned bookkeepers and accountants from manual addition and journals, AI will uplift coders from manually scaffolding projects and the grind of coding css, html, and repetitive classes.
There are 2 kinds of office co-workers - those who ignore the coffee machine alert that the grounds container needs to be emptied or it needs water after they've made their coffee, and those that take care of it for the next person.
oh, this is extremely cool. post claims the reason point estimates of project completion times are frequently large underestimates is that they're estimates of the median of a lognormal distribution, which is heavy-tailed, and the mean is 1.6x the median
The south peninsula is cut off apart from Chapman’s Peak drive.
How the hell can you force everyone through an expensive toll gate causing traffic chaos like this?
This is madness.
@CityofCT@geordinhl
How is there no procedure to open the till gate on Chapman’s when it’s the only open road?
What happens if an evacuation is needed? Will the jobsworths still be sitting there taking their R64 and stamping tickets.
This is shocking.
