From 18 Feb 2027, EU Batteries Regulation (Art. 11) requires portable batteries in most devices (incl. smartphones) sold in the EU to be **readily removable & replaceable** by end-users with common tools โ no glue, heat, or special tools.
Spare batteries must be available for at least 5 years at reasonable prices.
For phones/tablets, Ecodesign rules take precedence and may allow limited flexibility if devices meet strict durability + waterproofing standards.
This boosts repairability and reduces e-waste. Manufacturers like Samsung & Apple are adapting designs.
