@Lindendragonx@BiXolotl It also makes sense that you wouldn’t care as much to hear opinions from people who haven’t played if they’re just story focused games and you’re more interested in the story
@Lindendragonx@BiXolotl It just sounds like we prefer diff types of games and we value different aspects of the games we choose to play. If I’m listening to a reviewer I want to hear abt how it feels to play, and how fun it is, way more than the story. And it’s okay if you’re the opposite
@Lindendragonx@BiXolotl It’s a core element of the medium you’re missing out on. Whether you overvalue or undervalue gameplay, it’s what sets the medium apart from others so yes someone that just watched someone else play it has less to go on critically, imo
@Lindendragonx@BiXolotl When did I say can’t enjoy. I didn’t use those words at all. It’s about criticism - and yes I don’t understand how a blind person could criticize the cinematography of a film, for example, if they can’t see it
@Lindendragonx@BiXolotl But I also recognize that that’s my opinion and my subjective criteria for how I evaluate games . And also the way I pick the games I’m going to play in the first place lol. Like I don’t want to hear Doom Eternal critiques from a playthrough watcher
@Lindendragonx@BiXolotl Idk I guess I’m just a gameplay maxxer. I pick my games based on how fun they are to play. Story almost universally comes second to me and so many games tell story through that gameplay. So for this medium, I’m always going to look for opinions from people who played the product
@Lindendragonx@BiXolotl But regardless my point is that I wouldn’t call a playthrough watcher a full larper but I’d just not rly want to hear criticism from them lol. Like I don’t want to hear your opinions on a game you haven’t even touched, especially not negative ones
@Lindendragonx@BiXolotl It’s not exactly the same thing - but when you watch a game you’re missing out on a core portion of the medium, the gameplay, just like if you read a script you’d be missing out on a core portion of that medium (the visuals etc)
@itsDWGaming@HuntressSellia@ChrisVelanti These people genuinely cannot handle a “souls” esque game that isn’t made by daddy Miyazaki. I love from and their work is phenomenal but acting like no one else can make a fun game is absurd. LotF is easily the best coop experience of the bunch btw
@butchhandcannon@thunderba11r I feel like they aren’t that bad, they’re just so clearly derivative it’s hard to not take them w/ a grain of salt. I appreciated khazan and LotF for at least trying to mix things up - Khazan w expanded movesets, LotF w the umbral and seamless coop.
@peopleperson__@xShephardx I have like 500 hours in both of those games and I’m really enjoying Crimson Desert - it scratches that same itch. I can’t replay those games anymore - I’ve seen all there is to see and I’m happy to have found another comparable experience.
