When Karnataka wins, why does @INCKarnataka go silent?
Decades of injustice corrected - Mangaluru is officially set to be merged into Karnataka’s own Mysuru Division under the South Western Railway zone. A historic win for coastal connectivity, local businesses, and regional development.
Yet, NOT A SINGLE Congress leader in Karnataka has posted a word of celebration.
Where is the SPINE to speak up for Karnataka?
Mangaluru’s railways are finally coming under one roof!
A long-pending demand is being fulfilled as the Mangaluru railway region, currently divided across Southern & South Western Railways, is being brought under South Western Railway’s Mysuru Division.
This gives me a great sense of contentment, especially because this is a demand we raised as a priority within days of taking oath as your MP in June 2024.
Since then, we have pursued it relentlessly - taking it up repeatedly with our Hon’ble Union Minister for Railways Shri @AshwiniVaishnaw, whose proactive engagement and responsiveness in taking forward this long-pending demand I deeply appreciate. We have also used every available parliamentary and institutional forum to highlight the concern and press for its expeditious resolution.
This is a significant step for Mangaluru - reducing jurisdictional hurdles, improving coordination, enabling faster resolution of passenger concerns and giving greater focus to railway infrastructure and connectivity across coastal Karnataka.
With the formal notification expected soon, we will be better placed to address many of our railway-related concerns and, most importantly, enable Mangaluru’s railways to move faster on the tracks of Vikas.
Grateful to our Government led by PM Shri @narendramodi, Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw and MoS Shri @VSOMANNA_BJP for making this possible.

The name plates of Train No. 16511/12 KSR Bengaluru–Kozhikode Express are currently displaying “Yesvantpur–Kozhikode Express” instead of “KSR Bengaluru–Kozhikode Express.”
Recently, due to works at KSR Bengaluru, the train was temporarily shifted to SMVT Bengaluru. After restoration of KSR Bengaluru operations, the train has returned, but the name plate still mentions Yesvantpur, creating confusion and concern among passengers.
❓ Is South Western Railway planning to permanently shift the terminal of this train to Yesvantpur Junction?
If so, we strongly oppose this move.
Tr No. 16511/12 is a lifeline for passengers of Dakshina Kannada and the coastal region. Passengers have already faced difficulties due to previous operational changes and the temporary shift to SMVT Bengaluru.
KSR Bengaluru is far more convenient for passengers, being centrally located with excellent Metro, BMTC and connecting railway services and is easily accessible from different parts of Bengaluru. Shifting the train to Yesvantpur would create additional inconvenience and travel burden for regular passengers.
We request @SWRRLY,@drmsbc sir to kindly clarify the matter immediately and replace the existing name plate with “KSR Bengaluru–Kozhikode Express.”
🚆 KSR Bengaluru must continue as the terminal of Train No. 16511/12. This is not acceptable to passengers of Dakshina Kannada and the coastal region.

@drmsbc , @dkdistrictrail , @CaptBrijesh, Cancelling 16512/16511 between YPR and SBC is causing a lot of problems to us office goers. Requesting you to please restore it back. This is the only convenient train we have. @RailMadad , @GMSWR
@SWRRLY@GMSRailway@AshwiniVaishnaw@RailMinIndia@RailwaySeva@dkdistrictrail@VSOMANNA_BJP Train No 16511/12 is causing significant delay due to extra 2 coaches in 16595/96 express it was introduced during day train was stopped now day train is restored hence please remove 2 extra coach from 16595/96 or start 16511/12 early so that train runs ontime.
The temporary augmentation of coaches to Train No. 16595/96 KSR Bengaluru–Karwar Panchaganga Express has significantly altered the crossing pattern in the ghat section, especially after shifting the crossing from Shiribagilu to Subrahmanya Road. This operational change is now causing cascading delays to multiple overnight long-distance trains towards Mangaluru, including Tr No. 16511 KSR Bengaluru–Kozhikode Express, Tr No. 16585 SMVT Bengaluru–Murudeshwar Express and Tr No. 17377 Vijayapura–Mangaluru Central Express.
Train No. 16511, which is considered a lifeline for the people of Dakshina Kannada district and the only direct train running via Kunigal–Hassan route between Bengaluru and Mangaluru, is now facing severe punctuality issues. The average delay data of the last 7 days itself shows delays of around:
• 47 mins at Subrahmanya Road
• 1 hr 8 mins at Kabaka Puttur
• 1 hr 2 mins at Bantwala
• 1 hr 7 mins at Mangaluru Central
The attached running status images clearly show how one operational bottleneck is affecting multiple trains daily and causing hardship to students, employees, business travellers and regular commuters who depend on these overnight services.
We sincerely request @SWRRLY and @DrmMys sir to urgently review the present crossing arrangement and restore smoother train operations in the ghat section by proper rescheduling/crossing management. The reliability and punctuality of these important coastal Karnataka trains must be protected in the interest of the travelling public.
@CaptBrijesh@AshwiniVaishnaw@VSOMANNA_BJP@RailMinIndia@GMSRailway@DRMPalghat
We sincerely thank @CaptBrijesh sir for taking initiative and raising the demand for a dedicated weekend special train between Bengaluru and Mangaluru. This is a long-pending requirement and will greatly benefit passengers from Dakshina Kannada and surrounding regions who regularly travel on this route.
After facing back-to-back setbacks and continuous extensions of trains which were earlier running only up to Mangaluru Central, this proposal comes as a big hope for the people of our region.
A dedicated service between Bengaluru and Mangaluru Central is the need of the hour, considering the heavy demand and inconvenience faced by passengers, especially during weekends.
We hope @RailMinIndia, @GMSRailway and @SWRRLY considers this request positively and implements it at the earliest.
At the same time, we strongly hope that this train will be maintained strictly as a dedicated Bengaluru–Mangaluru service and will not be extended further in the future, ensuring that the interests and connectivity of Mangaluru region are fully protected.
@AshwiniVaishnaw@DRMPalghat@DrmMys@drmsbc
NO MORE EXTENSIONS OF TRAIN NO. 16511/16512 – ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!!!
Train No. 16511/16512 KSR Bengaluru – Kozhikode Express was originally introduced as a dedicated train up to Mangaluru Central, serving the people of Dakshina Kannada and nearby regions of Karnataka. Over time, it was extended to Kannur, reducing the exclusive benefit that Mangaluru once had. Now it has been further extended to Kozhikode, and now there are reports of extending it even beyond to Shoranur Jn.
This is clearly a step-by-step dilution of Mangaluru’s railway importance and connectivity.
With every extension, the seat and berth availability for passengers from Mangaluru and Dakshina Kannada region is getting reduced, as the quota is being distributed further beyond Mangaluru. A train that was meant to serve Karnataka is now gradually shifting its benefit away from the state.
Despite strong and continuous opposition from the people of Dakshina Kannada, both South Western Railway (SWR) and Southern Railway (SR) are pushing these decisions without giving any importance to public concerns.
If connectivity to Kerala is being cited as the reason, then let them demand and introduce a separate new train for that purpose. Why should an existing train meant for Mangaluru be continuously extended and diluted instead of addressing Karnataka’s needs?
At the same time, long-pending railway demands of Mangaluru and Karnataka are being ignored — no proper new trains, no restoration of important services, no priority for connectivity via the Hassan line, and no effort to strengthen internal connectivity within Karnataka.
People are not against connectivity, but they are strongly against losing their rightful share of seats, berths, and priority in a train originally meant for their region.
Now it is very clear — no more extensions are needed. Enough is enough. Stop this immediately.
We strongly urge @SWRRLY and @GMSRailway to roll back further extension plans and protect the existing seat and berth quota for Mangaluru and Dakshina Kannada passengers without any reduction.
@CaptBrijesh sir, This is the time to break your silence. People of Dakshina Kannada are expecting you to stand up and protect their interests.
And a final question to @SWRRLY, @GMSRailway -
After Shoranur Jn, what next? Palakkad Jn? Thiruvananthapuram Central? Or even Kanyakumari? Where does this end?
@AshwiniVaishnaw@VSOMANNA_BJP@RailMinIndia@drmsbc@DRMPalghat@Tejasvi_Surya@ShobhaBJP@PCMohanMP@dineshgrao
Despite the strong opposition from people of Mangaluru and other regions of Dakshina Kannada, Train No. 16511/16512 KSR Bengaluru–Kannur Express has now been extended further to Kozhikode. Once again, the voices of Dakshina Kannada have been completely ignored.
Both @SWRRLY and @GMSRailway have shown clear injustice to Dakshina Kannada district in this matter.
Let us look at the reality:
• No Navyug Express for Mangaluru.
• No Vande Bharat Express for Mangaluru.
• No Mangaluru–Tirupati train via Hassan line.
• No extension of Mahalakshmi Express to Mangaluru.
But when it comes to extending KSR Bengaluru–Kannur Express, it gets quickly pushed further to Kozhikode.
This train was originally dedicated to Mangaluru.
Then it was extended to Kannur.
Now it is extended again to Kozhikode.
Step by step, Mangaluru’s rail connectivity is being diluted, while the concerns of the people of Dakshina Kannada are repeatedly ignored.
Even during peak seasons and festivals, special trains to the coast conveniently bypass Mangaluru, despite huge passenger demand.
Is this how @SWRRLY treats Karnataka’s second-largest economic hub and one of India’s major GDP-contributing cities?
Now that the extension to Kozhikode has been done despite strong public opposition, the least that can be done is to ensure fairness in seat allocation.
Maintain the existing 80:20 seat and berth sharing arrangement, where passengers from the Mangaluru–Subrahmanya region receive a larger share, and the beyond-Mangaluru section receives a smaller share.
At the very least, ensure justice and fair representation for passengers of Dakshina Kannada.
And congratulations to @CaptBrijesh sir for maintaining remarkable silence on this issue.

Restore Bengaluru-Kannur Express to KSR Bengaluru — Passengers Cannot Be Ignored Anymore
The continued operation of Train No. 16511/16512 KSR Bengaluru–Kannur Express from SMVT Bengaluru instead of KSR Bengaluru is causing serious and growing inconvenience to thousands of passengers from Coastal Karnataka and Bengaluru. What was initially presented as a temporary operational adjustment is now turning into a prolonged disruption, and passengers are increasingly worried that this change may quietly become permanent.
For years, Bengaluru-Kannur Express served as one of the most dependable overnight trains between Coastal Karnataka and Bengaluru, primarily because of its central terminal at KSR Bengaluru (Majestic). The early morning arrival at KSR Bengaluru ensured seamless connectivity to the entire city through Metro (Green and Purple Lines), BMTC buses and KSRTC intercity services. This integration made the train extremely useful for employees, students, patients and daily travellers who depended on reliable morning connectivity.
The shift to SMVT Bengaluru has significantly weakened this convenience. Unlike KSR Bengaluru, SMVT lacks true multi-modal integration. Even though Baiyappanahalli Metro station exists nearby, there is still no seamless pedestrian connectivity, forcing passengers to rely on autos or cabs with luggage. The approach roads are congested, last-mile travel is unpredictable and commute costs have increased sharply — especially for passengers travelling to South and West Bengaluru.
Another major issue is arrival timing and city access. Earlier, passengers could reach the heart of Bengaluru by around 6:30 AM and plan their day efficiently. Now, the later arrival and peripheral terminal location mean delayed reporting times, missed connections and additional stress for working professionals and students.
Because of this inconvenience, many passengers have started travelling to Yesvantpur Junction just to board or deboard the train, even though the train originates or terminates at SMVT. This itself proves that SMVT is not serving the passenger majority. However, Bengaluru traffic is unpredictable and many travellers now risk missing the train while trying to reach Yesvantpur through peak congestion.
Passengers who strictly depend on KSR Bengaluru connectivity are now forced to rely on Train No. 16585/86 SMVT Bengaluru–Murudeshwar Express, as it still runs via KSR Bengaluru and offers better access to the city’s core. This forced dependency clearly shows how the terminal shift has disrupted established travel patterns and pushed passengers toward inconvenient alternatives.
The operational background of this decision is also important. Earlier, the rake of Kannur Express was maintained at Yesvantpur Junction, not KSR Bengaluru. During yard rearrangements and ongoing works, rake-sharing patterns were modified. Train No. 16593/94 KSR Bengaluru–Nanded Express, whose rake was maintained at KSR Bengaluru, was shifted to Yesvantpur Junction instead of SMVT Bengaluru. To accommodate this adjustment, Kannur Express was moved to SMVT Bengaluru. In simple terms, an operational reshuffle resulted in Kannur Express passengers bearing the maximum inconvenience, even though alternatives existed.
This clearly shows that operational convenience was prioritized over passenger convenience. A train serving lakhs of Coastal Karnataka passengers was shifted away from the city’s primary hub due to internal adjustments and the prioritisation of other interstate operations.
Passengers are deeply concerned that long-standing services are being disturbed to accommodate operational reshuffling and new priorities. One clear sentiment emerging from the travelling public is this: don’t weaken or sideline a lifeline train like Kannur Express to accommodate other interstate trains or internal operational adjustments. Established public services must not become collateral damage.
This is not the first time this issue has triggered public concern. Previous attempts to shift the terminal saw strong opposition from passengers and public representatives, and assurances were given that normal operations would resume after temporary works. Even now, South Western Railway has indicated that the present arrangement is temporary. However, repeated extensions of temporary measures are creating genuine fear that the change may quietly become permanent.
Decongestion of railway terminals is a valid objective, but it cannot come at the cost of passenger accessibility. KSR Bengaluru is not just another station- it is the primary mobility hub of the city and removing long-standing trains from this hub disrupts thousands of daily travel plans.
If the current arrangement continues, the long-term impact will be severe. Passengers will face higher travel costs, loss of seamless connectivity, reduced reliability and long-term inconvenience. Coastal Karnataka travellers, in particular, will be the worst affected, as they depend heavily on this train for work, education, medical travel and official commitments in Bengaluru.
Passengers are not opposing modernization or new terminals. But major operational changes must be passenger-first, not convenience-first for operations.
We strongly urge @SWRRLY,@drmsbc sir to review the situation with urgency and restore Train No. 16511/16512 KSR Bengaluru-Kannur Express to KSR Bengaluru at the earliest. If temporary arrangements were the reason, the time has now come to honour earlier assurances and bring back the original terminal.
The travelling public of Coastal Karnataka and Bengaluru deserve connectivity that is practical, affordable and accessible. A centrally located terminal is not a luxury — it is a necessity.
Restore Kannur Express to KSR Bengaluru!
Don’t sideline our lifeline train for operational reshuffling!
Passengers cannot be ignored any longer!
Save Coastal Karnataka train!

Restore Train No. 16511/12 Kannur–Bengaluru Express to KSR Bengaluru – A Genuine Public Demand
The shift of Train No. 16511/16512 KSR Bengaluru–Kannur Express from the centrally located KSR Bengaluru (Majestic) to Sir M. Visvesvaraya Terminal (SMVT Bengaluru) has caused widespread inconvenience to thousands of daily commuters, employees, students and general passengers. While the stated objective may have been decongestion of the main terminal, the ground reality is that this decision has severely disrupted passenger convenience, connectivity and affordability.
Earlier, when the train terminated at KSR Bengaluru, it arrived around 6:35–6:50 AM and halted at Yesvantpur Junction around AM. Both these stations are centrally located and offer excellent metro and BMTC connectivity. Passengers could seamlessly shift to metro lines, buses or other city transport and reach workplaces, colleges and appointments on time.
After shifting the terminal to SMVT Bengaluru, the train now arrives around AM at a location that lacks proper integration with Bengaluru’s transport network. Though Baiyappanahalli Metro station is nearby, there is no direct foot-over-bridge connection. Passengers must depend on autos or cabs to reach the metro, often with luggage. The approach roads via Banaswadi and Old Madras Road are narrow and heavily congested, especially during peak hours. This has increased both travel time and travel cost.
For passengers from West, South and Central Bengaluru, reaching SMVT Bengaluru is significantly more expensive compared to reaching KSR Bengaluru. Earlier, a simple metro ride to Majestic was enough. Now, passengers spend ₹300–₹600 for autos or cabs, sometimes equal to or more than the train fare itself. Late-night arrivals further worsen the situation due to limited public transport options.
Because of this inconvenience, many passengers are now travelling all the way to Yesvantpur Junction to board the train instead of SMVT Bengaluru. However, due to unpredictable city traffic, signal congestion and peak-hour delays, passengers sometimes miss the train despite leaving early. This has created unnecessary stress and uncertainty for regular commuters.
Passengers who strictly prefer boarding only from KSR Bengaluru are now depending on Train No. 16585/86 SMVT Bengaluru–Murudeshwar Express, which runs via KSR Bengaluru. This clearly shows that passenger preference for KSR Bengaluru remains strong and that the shift of Kannur Express to SMVT has not been practically convenient for the majority.
It is also important to highlight the operational background. Previously, the rake of Kannur Express was maintained at Yesvantpur Junction and not at KSR Bengaluru. During ongoing works at KSR Bengaluru, maintenance arrangements were modified. Train No. 16593/94 KSR Bengaluru–Nanded Express, whose rake was maintained at KSR Bengaluru, was shifted to Yesvantpur Junction. To accommodate this, Kannur Express was shifted to SMVT Bengaluru. In this entire operational rearrangement, passenger convenience was compromised.
South Western Railway has stated that this change is temporary – up to March 11 for Train No. 16511 and March 10 for Train No. 16512. We sincerely hope that after these dates, the train will be restored to KSR Bengaluru as earlier assured. However, given previous extensions of temporary arrangements, passengers are concerned that these changes may again be prolonged.
Passengers from Coastal Karnataka depend heavily on this train for employment, education, medical travel and official work in Bengaluru. The earlier early-morning arrival at centrally connected stations ensured affordable and reliable commuting. The current arrangement increases costs, causes delays and disturbs daily routines.
Decongestion measures are understandable, but they must not come at the cost of public convenience. Restoring Train No. 16511/16512 to KSR Bengaluru will reinstate seamless connectivity, reduce passenger expenditure and uphold the reliability expected from Indian Railways.
We therefore strongly urge South Western Railway to honor its assurance and restore the terminal of Train No. 16511/16512 Kannur–Bengaluru Express to KSR Bengaluru immediately after the notified temporary period, in the larger public interest.
@SWRRLY@GMSWR@drmsbc@RailMinIndia@AshwiniVaishnaw@VSOMANNA_BJP@CaptBrijesh
This is unacceptable and unjust to passengers.
The so-called temporary terminal change of Train No. 16511/12 KSR Bengaluru–Kannur Express to SMVT Bengaluru has now been extended again!
Shifting the terminal away from KSR Bengaluru, the city’s main rail hub, causes avoidable hardship, poor connectivity and added travel burden for thousands of passengers from Coastal Karnataka.
We urge @SWRRLY to end this prolonged “temporary” arrangement immediately and restore the train to KSR Bengaluru.
Passenger convenience should not be sidelined.
@drmsbc
🚨 CONCERNS REGARDING INDICATION OF EXTENSION OF TRAIN NO. 16511/12 KSR BENGALURU–KANNUR EXPRESS (VIA MANGALURU CENTRAL) BEYOND KANNUR 🚨
It has come to our notice that in the recently released “Trains at a Glance – 2026”, Train No. 16511/12 KSR Bengaluru–Kannur Express has been shown as extended up to Kozhikode, even though such an extension has not been implemented on the ground.
Background that cannot be ignored:
• The original and primary demand was only to run this train up to Mangaluru Central, which is a major railhead, known as gateway of Karnataka, port city and is the principal destination for a large share of passengers travelling between Coastal Karnataka and Bengaluru.
• Mangaluru is steadily emerging as Karnataka’s second major IT, education, healthcare, and port-led economic hub, making strong and protected rail connectivity to Bengaluru absolutely critical.
• Any proposal to extend the train beyond Mangaluru Central was strongly opposed by passenger associations and stakeholders from Dakshina Kannada district, citing capacity constraints and very high existing demand.
• Despite these objections, the train was later extended up to Kannur, without the introduction of an additional rake or capacity augmentation, leading to continued stress on availability.
• Even after extension to Kannur, Train No. 16511/12 continues to run with heavy waiting lists throughout the year, clearly establishing that the core demand lies in Coastal Karnataka, particularly up to Mangaluru Central.
Present concern:
Showing Kozhikode as the terminal station in a reference publication like Trains at a Glance is a matter of serious concern when:
1⃣ The extension beyond Kannur has not been implemented
2⃣ Earlier objections regarding extensions beyond Mangaluru Central and Kannur remain unaddressed
3⃣ There is no clarity on additional rakes, coach augmentation or quota restructuring
4⃣ Capacity on the Mangaluru–Hassan ghat section, already a critical bottleneck, has not been enhanced
Why further extension is unjustified:
• Train No. 16511/12 is a lifeline overnight service for Dakshina Kannada and Kasaragod districts, with limited alternatives for Bengaluru connectivity.
• The train also records very high patronage from devotees travelling to major Karnataka pilgrimage centres such as Kukke Subrahmanya and Shri Kshethra Dharmasthala, which attract year-round and seasonal pilgrim traffic, further contributing to consistently high demand.
• Any further extension will dilute seat and berth availability for existing passengers, worsening an already severe demand–supply imbalance.
• Long-distance connectivity requirements beyond Kannur should be addressed through separate and independent services, not by overburdening an already saturated train.
Our considered view:
Train No. 16511/12, presently operating as KSR Bengaluru–Kannur Express, is already running under heavy demand and capacity constraints. Any further extension beyond Kannur, as being indicated up to Kozhikode, will seriously aggravate the demand–supply imbalance and adversely affect the core user base from Coastal Karnataka and Kasaragod.
If additional rail connectivity is required for destinations beyond Kannur, it should be addressed through independent train services, either via Mangaluru or via the Salem–Palghat route, without placing further burden on an already over-utilised train.

Highlighted the issue of reorganisation of Mangalore Railways administration during the question hour today.
The entire running stretch of railways Mlore-Blore falls under the SWR while our two stations Mlore Central & Junction come under Southern Railway.
Have also shared concerns about the same in a letter to the Hon’ble Union Railway Minister Shri @AshwiniVaishnaw during a meeting at the start of this Winter Session of Parliament.
I’m confident that with his support, we can initiate these changes for our region.
As a key port city, Mangalore can benefit greatly from better administration of these basic infrastructure facilities esp railways which is the lifeline of people’s & freight movement thereby travel, trade and commerce.
