Holding the Harvard Extension School to a higher standard, one tweet at a time. By @ilamont, ALM '08. No current #Harvard affiliation. Retweets ≠ endorsements.
This is how you get change at Harvard. Loud, vocal, public demonstrations & awareness.
Harvard Extension School students have put up with a second-class & demeaning degree designation for too long. EQUAL TREATMENT NOW!
Academically Accurate Degrees, NOW!
We ask the FAS Faculty Council to put this on their agenda and take a vote on it this year! Do the right thing, Harvard.
It is time.
Harvard Extension School proseminar faculty (Bond brothers) and research advisors always framed liberal arts ALM theses as training for doctoral research.
They said a future PhD would be far easier to complete as we understood research reqs and writing/editorial processes.
'MIT quietly scrubbed Vekselberg from its board in 2018, following the U.S. Treasury Department's decision to list him and his business group among the Russian officials, "oligarchs," and companies to be penalized for advancing Moscow's "malign activities."'
"Critics of the donation particularly slammed Griffin’s decision to back Florida Governor Ron DeSantis for president"
Indefensible.
The same guy who is dismantling higher education in Florida and discriminating against gay and trans people.
Harvard University President Lawrence S. Bacow defended the decision to accept a $300 million donation from Republican megadonor Kenneth C. Griffin ’89 and rename the GSAS in his honor during an interview on Monday.

NEW: Ken Griffin, the hedge fund CEO who seemed poised to back DeSantis six months ago, has been privately telling people he’s deeply troubled by DeSantis on Ukraine and abortion. They met privately in last two weeks. W Rebecca Davis O’Brien https://t.co/fhjCgWkQwy
"I find it hard to believe that people who were assigned such important roles to protect civil rights can turn right around and deny the rights of Harvard students by rigging election roles to exclude an entire class of people from participating in student government elections."
The incident involves a Title IX coordinator @HarvardExt.
Some followers may recall HES DSO officers responsible for trying to rig @HarvardESA elections in 2021 and deny the rights of certain students (and then lying about it) were also Title IX coordinators.
We would like to take a moment to affirm our support for and solidarity with all of our fellow Harvard Extension School students.

"I discovered that the Harvard Extension School DSO Dean and at least one other DSO staff member are listed as Title IX coordinators at Harvard with responsibility for overseeing an important federal civil rights program that governs gender discrimination."
@mmlarthur @rkelchen @USC Maybe for in-state public, but not for out of state public and private unless you're fortunate enough to get a scholarship, grants, or waivers.

@rkelchen Paywalled, but understand the skepticism. $100k-$300k for most 4 year residential programs, millions of grads end up doing low paid work that doesn't even require a degree.
Many university programs are predatory. Not just for-profits, see @USC film degrees.
This is an amazing program. What an opportunity for someone to get an associates degree or test the community college waters.
Harvard Extension used to offer an associates degree but phased it out 10 or 15 years ago.

ALERT: Boston will now allow all residents, regardless of age, income, or immigration status, to sign up for its Tuition Free Community College Plan, paying for up to 3 years of tuition and fees for all pursuing an associate degree or certificate program at a partner college.

Hi students (and, well, EVERYONE)! Just a reminder that if you’re using ChatGPT to research something and it gives you a list of exciting references to news articles, authors, and even a summary, and then you can’t find them on a website… it’s 99% likely they never existed
Helped my child research summer college costs in 2021 (except for @UMassBoston which shows ~2023 costs for Mass resident) for 3-4 credit classes.
The big shock was UVM, more than Harvard Extension or Brandeis!
Child ended up doing UC Berkeley in 2021, will do UMass this year.
Alums (inc new Harvard Extension grads): @HarvardExtAlum annual banquet registration is open. It's a grand event that takes place in late May. Details ⤵️ https://t.co/itlIvuVSnc
This here is completely wrong. Degrees didn't hover at 15% decades--they completely collapsed in the 1970s. Nor did they follow the economy--they had a huge boom w/ the baby boom, and a little one around 1990. Chart from my 2018 Atlantic article. https://t.co/EQphQSltTK
