I have a badge. An invisible badge of war.
As events in #Ukraine unfolded so did my badge.
It's 23 years since I experienced war. I wrote a few words drawing parallels with the war in 🇺🇦.

In October and November 2025, Amnesty researchers, visited northeastern Chad near the border with Sudan. Here they documented what civilians have lived through since the war began.
Many of the people they spoke to were children. Children who fled under fire were deliberately shot, separated from their families or forced to survive on their own. These are their stories.

“History will remember him as the unremarkable former human rights lawyer who offered carte blanche to the gravest crimes of our age.”
Good riddance, Sir Keir. For @ScotNational.
"I have three questions today for Israeli people through this press conference. I want to speak to them directly," said Sidoti.
🔴What kind of people are your soldiers who would allow a 14 year old child to bleed to death over a 45 minute period?
🔴What kind of people are your military leaders that would inculcate a culture that soldiers feel free to do this, acting with total impunity?
🔴What kind of people are your leaders? When they give orders, they make statements that encourage this kind of conduct, not merely permit it, but encourage it?
Amnesty International fully supports the mandate and vital work of the UN Special Procedures, including Special Rapporteur Francesca Albanese. Their independence is absolute and protected from interference from states and integral to an effective execution of their mandates.
Amnesty has previously raised concerns about personal attacks against among others Francesca Albanese. Any attempts to misconstrue, discredit or place political pressure on independent mandate holders risk undermining the integrity of the crucial international human rights mechanisms at a time when it is under attacks; at a time too when Israel’s genocide against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, its unlawful occupation of the Palestinian territory, and its cruel system of apartheid against all Palestinians whose rights Israel control continue with total impunity.
Amnesty reaffirms its support for the work of the Special Rapporteur on upholding international law, including by denouncing the system that has enabled the genocide against Palestinians in Gaza, including the financial capital that funds it, the algorithms that obscure it and the weapons that enable it.
Amnesty itself has denounced on many occasions the political economy of repression behind the genocide, the crime against humanity of apartheid and unlawful
Occupation. The organization has called on third parties to refrain from providing any assistance to Israel’s illegal conduct and for states to live up to their legal obligations under international law including by cooperating to bring Israel’s international crimes to an end. on many occasions.
The fossil fuel industry is thriving around the world, despite the global commitments by world leaders to move away from coal, oil and gas.
In our latest report, #ExtractionExtinction, we @amnesty expose how the fossil fuel infrastructure is expanding at the expense of human rights. Our new report, out now: https://t.co/NQfGKSHEiv
Israel is continuing to use starvation as a method of warfare, a war crime, and as a tool to commit genocide against Palestinians in the occupied Gaza Strip.
The harrowing suffering of starving Palestinians in Gaza, including our own colleagues, on an hourly basis, is exacerbated by Israel’s cruel and devastating militarised non-neutral ‘aid distribution’ system. Over 800 people have been killed trying to access aid. This must stop now.
Israel’s genocide against Palestinians in Gaza must end now. Israel must immediately lift all restrictions on the entry of aid, reinstate the UN system of aid distribution and allow unfettered, safe, and dignified access to humanitarian aid throughout Gaza immediately. States must stop their inertia and urgently act to ensure Israel fully complies with international law.
The EU’s refusal to suspend its agreement with Israel is a cruel and unlawful betrayal – of the European project and vision, predicated on upholding international law and fighting authoritarian practices, of the European Union’s own rules and of the human rights of Palestinians.
Today, the Srebrenica Memorial Center and BIRN BiH officially opened the expanded exhibition "Lives Behind the Fields of Death." The exhibition is the result of a multi-year collaboration during which 200 survivor testimonies were recorded using oral history methodology. Survivors donated personal belongings or items that belonged to loved ones killed in the genocide, now preserved as part of the Center’s permanent collection.
Supported by the Government of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, the exhibition is a powerful contribution to truth-telling and remembrance. Speakers at the opening included H.E. @HenkvandenDool, Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to BiH, @DenisDzidic, Director of BIRN BiH, and @suljagicemir1, Director of the Srebrenica Memorial Center.

Henk van den Dool, ambasador Kraljevine Nizozemske u BiH, Denis Džidić, direktor BIRN-a BiH, i Emir Suljagić, direktor Memorijalnog centra Srebrenica.
The US sanctions against @FranceskAlbs are a continuation of the Trump administration’s assault on international law and its efforts to protect the Israeli government from accountability at all costs.
They are the latest in a series of Trump administration policies seeking to intimidate and silence those that dare speak out for Palestinians’ human rights.
Instead of attacking the Special Rapporteur and further undermining the rule-based order, the US government should focus on putting an end to its unconditional support to Israel, enabling total impunity for its crimes in the Occupied Palestinian Territory.
States must forcefully reject these disgraceful, vindictive sanctions and exert maximum diplomatic pressure on the US government to reverse them.
The United Nations must also fully support her as an independent UN expert appointed by the UN Human Rights Council.
Governments around the world and all actors who believe in the rule-based order and international law must do everything in their power to mitigate and block the effect of the sanctions against Francesca Albanese and more generally to protect the work and independence of Special Rapporteurs.”
Netanyahu’s statement eerily echoes the words of Balkan war criminal Ratko Mladić, who said people of #Srebrenica could stay or leave.
30 years later, the rhetoric and inaction feel hauntingly familiar, only this time, on a larger scale.
#GazaGenocide
Netanyahu: people in Gaza should be able to leave if they want to leave. We are working with the U.S. to find countries that are willing to give the Palestinians a better future. It's about freedom to choose
Israel's genocide in Gaza is continuing unabated.
Over a month since the introduction of its militarized aid distribution system, the catastrophic suffering continues, and Israel continues to use starvation of civilians as a method of warfare against Palestinians in Gaza and to deliberately impose conditions of life calculated to bring about their physical destruction.
Israel must lift all restrictions and allow unfettered, safe, and dignified access to humanitarian aid throughout Gaza immediately.
I hope @Keir_Starmer & @DavidLammy are made to watch #GazaDoctorsUnderAttack & are then questioned about why they continue to support the genocide. Why don't they invite the filmmakers & others to No.10 for a summit on #Gaza like they did with the Adolescence creators? Seriously.
We were so desperate for our film made with approved by and lauded by @BBCNews bosses had gone out on the national broadcaster that was so respected across the world. The Doctors told us they thought @BBCNews would never broadcast their stories; tragically they were right. Thanks to @Channel4 & @zeteo_news their stories are being heard #GazaDoctorsUnderAttack
