Ayn Rand's influence in a village
Ayn Rand could never have imagined that one of her admirers, living in the small village of Parakkai in Kanniyakumari district, would one day name his house after her.
That admirer is Pari Pandian, a former student of Presidency College, Chennai, who studied alongside MDMK general secretary Vaiko. A voracious reader with an enduring passion for books and ideas, Mr. Pari found in Rand’s writings a philosophy that resonated deeply with him. His admiration was such that he chose to immortalise it in a uniquely personal way—by naming his home after the celebrated novelist and philosopher.
In a quiet village far removed from the world that shaped Rand’s thought, her influence survives in an unexpected form, testament to the remarkable reach of books and the enduring bond between readers and the writers who inspire them.
The kindest thing literature does is remind you that your peculiar little feelings have always existed. Someone, in some century, was equally confused by love, bored by society, tired of performing, and hungry for meaning.
Had voltage fluctuations for around 3 hours at midnight in Chromepet area. Dialled Minnagam, and the response was surprisingly instant. They immediately registered my complaint and rectified the issue within ½ hour.
Much appreciated!

Don’t know who painted these in Hyderabad but damn! I hope this talent is not wasted only on concrete walls. This is some serious painter there. All of these paintings are masterpieces.

This has been a long-pending request from fellow Chennaiites: clean up the Cooum, redirect the sewage drains to composting and purification plants, and develop the infra surrounding them. If this succeeds in the next 5-year, it has just been a matter of political will all along!
@bakwasfellow A simple solution to this might be to just have an announcement made while approaching the station. A countdown timer to indicate the stop duration will be helpful as well.
You have every right to know what your government is doing, and they have no right to know what you are doing.
That is why they are called public servants and we are called private citizens.
Instead, the relationship has been inverted. The state hides behind secrecy, classified files, and redactions while demanding total visibility into your finances, communications, movement, and behavior.
A society where the rulers live in privacy while the population lives under surveillance is the very definition of tyranny.
What kind of world are we leaving behind? Unfortunately, it is a world distorted by war and war-like language. This pollution of reason comes from the geopolitical sphere and invades every social relationship. Any simplification that creates enemies must be corrected, especially in universities, through complexity of thought and wise exercise of memory.
Is the TN govt. considering this as a possible situation and preparing for it? This seems very likely based on multiple sources.
Please correct me if I'm wrong!

1877 was the worst year in Tamil Nadu history, we suffered the Thathu Panjam (தாது வருடப் பஞ்சம்), 1/5th of Tamils died in hunger, almost all are affected, most death in Tamils history. In 2026, we may see super El Nino on the likes of 1877 (lets hope IoD help us). 1/2

NEW: German Chancellor Merz says the US "is being humiliated by the Iranian leadership, especially by the Revolutionary Guards," calling Iran "clearly stronger than one thought" and "very skilfully not negotiating, letting the Americans travel to Islamabad and then leave without any result."
He compared the war to Afghanistan and Iraq, saying the US has no exit strategy.
