🇵🇰 Pakistan Puts Journalist on Terrorism Watchlist After He Interviews Families of Children Killed by Its Army

🔹Pakistani authorities have placed journalist Danish Irshad on its Fourth Schedule, designating him a suspected terrorist and subjecting him to restrictions on his travel, his banking, and his access to financial services.

🔹Irshad tells Drop Site there is no court order behind the listing and there has been no trial. The Fourth Schedule is an administrative designation under Pakistan’s Anti-Terrorism Act (not a criminal conviction).

🔹Irshad began reporting in Islamabad in 2015 has covered Azad Jammu and Kashmir for nearly a decade, most recently interviewing families whose children were killed by Pakistan’s armed forces.

🔹His listing, issued by the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Home Department without specific allegations against him, is part of a widening crackdown that has swept journalists and activists onto the watchlist since the June ban of the Jammu & Kashmir Joint Awami Action Committee.

🔹He told Drop Site News: “Adding someone’s name to the Fourth Schedule without any court order and without any trial raises a serious question about the state’s credibility. How did a journalist’s speaking and writing become an act of terrorism? Declaring anyone guilty without trial can never be justified.”

Various reports of an airstrike/quadcopter attacks on civilians in Surab district, as reported on social media and by Balochistan-based online media outlets, are deeply disturbing. The images coming out of the area are very horrifying that show women, men and children under the rubble, disfigured bodies and some uncovered in blood.

As if enforced disappearances, extrajudicial killings, and the criminalisation of dissent through the Fourth Schedule and collective punishment were not enough, the government and military establishment now appears to have resorted to airstrikes and quadcopter attacks against civilian populations.

My heart cries with the loss of innocent lives and pictures of children killed in the attacks shared on social media should be a matter of concern and shame for authorities. One can’t make peace with killing innocent children.

The family members of the civilians killed in the attacks are staging a sit in on main highway with 5 dead bodies of their loved ones. According to locals, two dead bodies were very disfigured and that were buried. At least 20 were injured and some bodies are still under the rubble.

I call for a full, independent, and transparent investigation into this incident. I also urge Pakistan’s civil society organizations and human rights groups to speak out against this barbarism. Silence must not allow such violence to become normalized in Balochistan.

“For three years, Pakistan’s authorities have systematically denied Imran Khan the right to a fair trial, subjected him to prolonged solitary confinement, and limited his access to medical care and visitation rights. He has not been allowed to meet his family for more than eight months and his vision has reportedly deteriorated significantly. گزشتہ دنوں شہریوں کی جانب سے بتایا گیا تھا کہ کھانے پینے کا بندوبست مل جل کر ہی کیا جاتا ہے۔ گیس سلنڈر (ایل پی جی) بھی تقریبا ختم ہو چکے ہیں جس کی وجہ سے لوگ کھانا پکانے کے لئے لوگ نزدیکی علاقوں سے لکڑی لا کر اپنے صحن میں آگ جلانے پر بھی مجبور ہیں۔ ہر جگہ پر اطراف کے چار، 5 گھر مل کر کھانا ایک ساتھ بناتے تھے۔
لیکن اب کھانے پینے کی اشیا ختم ہونے کے باعث بڑے پیمانے پر فوڈ کرائسز (خوراک کی قلت) کی خبریں سامنے آ رہی ہیں جو کسی بڑے سانخے کا سبب بھی بن سکتا ہے۔

💢🇵🇰 Pakistan accused of killing at least 30 unarmed protesters in two days in Pakistan-administered Kashmir

Pakistani security forces opened fire on demonstrators near Rawalakot in Pakistan-administered Kashmir this week, with organizers reporting dozens killed as tens of thousands attempted a long march toward the regional capital, Muzaffarabad.

At least 30 people were killed over two days, 25 on Monday and five on Tuesday, according to the Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC), the civil society group leading more than 50 days of protests over electoral reform and detained activists. The Guardian said it could not independently verify the toll, as media were barred from the area and an internet blackout remained in place.

Organizers say forces fired on unarmed marchers without warning; police say armed protesters fired first, killing a paramilitary Ranger. JAAC says security forces later removed bodies from streets and hospitals in Mirpur to conceal the killings.

A resident who reached Islamabad told Drop Site that Rangers had raided homes and forced women at gunpoint to cook for them. Amnesty International has called on Pakistan to lift the communications blackout.
