#Edouard (#05L)'s core really came together overnight, with strengthening convective bands wrapping fairly well into the center despite the storm's outward appearance. Thankfully, this is going to run out of time to intensify before it makes landfall. (radar from @cyclonicwx)

TS #Edouard (#05L) is learning just how unfavorable an El Niño Atlantic basin is. Despite being over extremely warm waters in the Gulf of Mexico, a very dry surface to mid-level air mass has rapidly eroded away its convection.

Taking a look at the hurricane models for tropical depression #05L and the Hafs models tend to not do too much strengthing with the system, whereas both the HWRF and HMON both at least show a tropical storm/low-end hurricane. Given the relatively small size of this system and the pretty pristine conditions tend to side more with the HWRF and HMON here.

Tropical depression #05L over the gulf and will likely become a tropical storm. These small more compact storms can certainly surprise you with RI especially in an environment characterize by very warm waters and low wind shear. Time will likely be the biggest thing preventing this system from becoming something major, perhaps a low-end hurricane is on the table though.

Tropical Depression #05L seems primed for quick strengthening right up through landfall tomorrow with increasing organization both on radar returns and in the general convective pattern. Time is the main limitation here, with thankfully a mere 18-24 hours left over water. Given it's relatively small size, I could see a run at perhaps minimal hurricane intensity before coming ashore.

Tropical Depression #05L formed earlier today and already has a well defined appearance. I wouldn’t be surprised if this system managed to develop a lower level core and intensifies considerably before landfall, similar to Humberto of 2007. This is one to watch, folks.

Well, that happened fast. Recon was able to find a closed surface center and #05L is now a tropical depression. Despite how robust the mid-level circulation is, winds at the center are relatively weak. Still, some strengthening is likely and this will likely be TS #Edouard soon.

Potential Tropical Cyclone #05L is finally on the board. #PTC5 is expected to become a TD or TS. Due to small size of system strengthening could occur beyond what is forecast. Extreme SE TX- SW LA is the target late Tue. 3”-6” up to 9” of rain can be expected. #TXwx #LAwx

PTC #05L has been designated S of #Louisiana. A TS Warning has been issued for the LA & #Texas coast. A brief TS is expected out of this one. The next name on the list is #Edouard. Impacts will be minor w/ minor inland & storm surge flooding. #tropicswx #TXwx #LAwx
