Top Tweets for #224DAYS

In recent days it’s been reported that the president plans to travel to Kismaayo to mend relations with the Jubaland leader — the same leader he once tried (and failed) to arrest and strip of territory. He’s also signaling a willingness to seek rapprochement with Deni of Puntland, after ignoring him for three years. Meanwhile, the politicians you now belittle are the very men who made HSM president — the same circle he belonged to before taking power. (See the photos: just months before, the so-called “provocateurs” lifted him from third place in round one to the presidency itself.) For months the president has been in quiet talks with Mogadishu-based politicians — former presidents, prime ministers, sitting MPs — whom you now ironically label “provocateurs” and “entrenched elites.” Yet all these leaders — and many of us — demand only what HSM himself demanded four years ago: — an agreed-upon electoral model, and — no term extension. As the Somali say, “Haddii la dhimanayo, dhareerka waa la iska duwaa” — when the days are clearly numbered, there’s no use thrashing or lashing out. Come 15 May 2026, there will be no extension for the president— as he called term extensions as a manifest “fornication.” The only sensible path left is to negotiate, in good faith, a workable electoral model and the governance practicalities for a peaceful, credible transition. Demonizing dissent or mocking the opposition will not change the clock. Only #224Days remain of this squandered term — and time cannot be rewound. And ironically, as the four attached photos prove, when HSM was in the opposition his preferred spot was shoulder-to-shoulder with the same politicians you’re now busy belittling. Smh.
