@HistoryKE Interestingly, I used to work in the building that is presently Ole Sereni.
Back then it was a desolate building along the Park fence off Mombasa road.
Months after the blast, the building was leased to the yanks & reinforced to became the temp US Embassy.

We used to take the staff bus from Development house across the road from the main entrance to the US Embassy. Missed the blast by hours. That evening, we went to donate blood but Nairobi Hospital was packed and they had no where to store more.

At exactly the time of this post, at 1030HRS twenty three years ago, on 7th August 1998, guards at the rear entrance of the United States of America embassy building in downtown Nairobi waved down a truck for routine inspection.
On this day I entered the American embassy for a Visa and 30min later the bomb went off. Was the last person to walk out from the public visa room. Psychological trauma dogged me for years. Today I celebrate Life. I Thank God for Life. I have so much to achieve and enjoy.
Today marks 23 years since the August 7th bombing of the @usembassynairobi and @usembassytz which led to the death of more than 200 people and thousands injured.

23 years ago terrorists used a car bomb to blow up the then US Embassy.
We remember the 218 people we lost and we celebrate the hundreds who survived. That day is forever marked in our country's history. May we never forget it and the lessons it taught us.
