"The 24 Fire Incident Command assesses that fire remains at approximately 7,385 acres while the containment has increased to 24%. This is the result of the day crews’ aggressive strengthening of control lines around the fire.
Good progress has been made along Highway 115 with crews conducting mop up, tree removal and clean up. Crews along the north, east and south control lines completed interior firing operations and made good progress on mop up along the road.
For the next 12 hours, crews will continue to mop up, monitor, and patrol. Firefighters and apparatus will be visible along all control lines, especially along the Highway 115 corridor."

Colorado Springs, many of you are seeing and smelling the smoke from the #24Fire along Highway 115. For some in the south part of our city, you’re even seeing ash.
It’s a reminder we cannot ignore.
Right now, the conditions in Colorado Springs are ripe for wildfire. We just had the warmest winter and warmest February on record and have broken heat records in March already. And we continue to see dry air and low humidity. These are the same kind of conditions that have shaped some of the most devastating fires in our city’s history.
The truth is, wildfire is not a matter of if here. It’s when. And when that moment comes, the difference will be how prepared we are today.
As your mayor, my responsibility is to make sure our city is ready. Our firefighters, police officers, and emergency teams are prepared. We have been and continue to invest in mitigation, planning, and coordination across agencies every single day.
But even the best response cannot replace community preparedness.
That starts at home.
So here’s what I’m asking you to do today:

First, there have been claims that the fire was started by Fort Carson. This information is not true. At this time, the fire’s origin has been identified near mile marker 24 on Highway 115, and the official cause remains under investigation and undetermined.
Additionally, there have been reports suggesting that the fire has crossed Highway 115. This is also incorrect. As of the latest updates, the fire has not jumped Highway 115, and crews continue to actively monitor and work to contain the fire along that corridor.
I understand that situations like this can create concern and a strong desire for information. However, misinformation can spread quickly—especially on social media—and can cause unnecessary panic or confusion.

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office has issued a pre-evacuation warning for highway 115 at Sandy Creek Ranch Heights.
Evacuation orders issued by the Fremont County Sheriff remain in place.
