#UniversalCredit advances are loans and not extra money. Repayments mean people have to live for a year on less than the government has decided is the minimum needed to survive Time to end the #5weekwait or provide #grantsnotloans

This is such important analysis from @jrf_uk. It shows that two big drivers in rising destitution are inadequate benefits and govt deductions from benefits (e.g. the loan offered to cover the #5weekwait that's built into #UniversalCredit). This is what injustice looks like.

The £20 uplift in #UniversalCredit is welcome, but it's due to end in March. It should be made permanent, and extended to #LegacyBenefits, until the whole system can be reformed - ideally to one of #UniversalBasicIncome for all. Also, the #5WeekWait should be a grant, not a loan.
