Frenzy ('72)
⭐⭐⭐⭐
Thats 70 films from the #70s all wrapped up. This psychological thriller immediately & easily made it into my #Hitchcock Top 10. The sideplot about the police officers wifes cooking is just as interesting as the strangulation murders

Family Plot ('76)
⭐⭐⭐½
The last film #AlfredHithcock made, in my opinion, doesn't get enough love. A wonderfully entertaining & often funny crime thriller, with a great cast. It also marks my 100th film in which #EdithHead designed the costumes

Another I expected to really dislike, but again the reviews are worse than the film. Sure, it's a dreary relationship drama, and #JohnTravolta mostly hams it up, but I found it has a bit of charm.

Cromwell ('70)
⭐⭐⭐½
Mostly inaccurate historical epic, chronicling the rise of Oliver Cromwell, mightily performed by #RichardHarris & w/ excellent support from #AlecGuinness. Splendid locations & costumes & altogether engrossing where 140 mins fly by.

Badlands ('73)
⭐⭐⭐⭐
This marks my 3rd #TerrenceMalick film & it's my favourite by a long stretch. Finally adds some context to the Springsteen song too. A beautiful, meditative debut from a director I've mostly struggled with, that's stirring & poetic

The Rocky Horror Picture Show ('75)
⭐⭐⭐⭐
I pretty much loved every minute of this #horror musical, but my favourite thing was the casting of Charles Grey, and getting him to stand on a table to explain how to dance the Time Warp.

A Fistful of Dynamite ('71) [Duck, You Sucker]
⭐⭐⭐½
#SergioLeone & #EnnioMorricone reteam for their final western. While it doesn't live up to the their other classics & is a bit hit and miss, it's undeniably a rollicking adventure with a great score.

Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid ('73)
⭐⭐⭐½
I'll say straight up, the pre-credit opening can absolutely fuck off. That aside, a drunken Peckinpah is on form, helped by his stars and the excellent soundtrack by #BobDylan. A violent and sleazy #70s western.

Comes a Horseman ('78)
⭐⭐⭐
Despite the low rating I thought the combo of Pakula behind the lens, and #JaneFonda, #JamesCaan & Jason Robards in front of it, that Id get more out of this #70s western. It looks good but its a little dull & drags in places

It's Alive ('74)
⭐⭐⭐
My favourite thing about this #70s killer-baby #horror from Larry Cohen, is that it had the balls to go completely straight and play it like a gritty cop thriller. B-movie madness and mayhem. Great fun.

Avanti! ('72)
⭐⭐⭐½
A businessman travels to Italy to collect the body of his father, only to find out he died with his Mistress.
This #BillyWilder / #JackLemmon frisky romantic comedy feels like a bit of a hangover from the 60s, but there's still charm

The Prince and the Pauper [Crossed Swords] ('77)
⭐⭐⭐
A story for the ages. A star-studded adaptation of Twain's novel, inclu Birthday boy himself #CharltonHeston. It's not a bad film, nor a great one, but the '37 Errol Flynn picture is still superior.

Jeremiah Johnson ('72)
⭐⭐⭐½
Crisply shot on location in Arizona and directed by Sydney Pollack, this is a lovely, understated #70s #western with a low-key, pensive performance from #RobertRedford. And finally, I also now have context for that Gif.

Being There ('79)
⭐⭐⭐½
I thought the same way Laurence Olivier did when he turned down Melvyn Douglas' role- we really didnt need a #ShirleyMacClaine masterbation scene. A big distraction from what they'd been building, but #PeterSellers is marvellous.

The Last Wave ('77)
⭐⭐⭐½
A lawyer defends five Aboriginal men on a murder charge, but was it murder or magic?
#PeterWeir does it again. A slow, engaging and atmospheric #70s fantasy that blurs the lines between reality and the supernatural/occult.

M*A*S*H ('70)

'If a man isn't a man anymore, what's he got left that he should be living for?'
The #RobertAltman film I'd most been looking forward to didn't disappoint, but the brilliant cast did help carry me through. Hard-hitting #70s comedy.

McCabe & Mrs. Miller ('71)
⭐⭐⭐
Im gonna get grilled, but I just don't get on all that well w/ #RobertAltman films. No matter the story they always feel bleak & lifeless. #JulieChristie earned an Oscar Nom & rightly so. A beautifully shot #70s western.

Picnic at Hanging Rock ('75) [DC]
⭐⭐⭐½
#PeterWeir is a fascinating director. My introduction was Gallipoli. I was 8 & its a film I still think about today. After a schlocky horror he hit true form w/ his 2nd picture; an artful & haunting period mystery

Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Garcia ('74)
⭐⭐⭐
I expectedly to enjoy this a lot more than I did, especially as it's #SamPeckinpah & is considered a classic. Less violent than we're used to, with twisted, unlikeable characters. A sleazy & grimy #70s film

#70FilmsFromThe70s 51/70
Paper Moon ('73)
⭐⭐⭐⭐
A conman & a young girl who may or may not be his daughter travel the midwest swindling widows of cash while forging an unlikely bond.
#PeterBogdanovich's enduring depression era dramedy is a pure delight. #TatumONeal is superb.
