Thank you, Asm. @ChrisHoldenNews, for listening to physicians' concerns regarding #AB1570. This legislation would have jeopardized patient safety by permitting underqualified optometrists to conduct intricate eye surgeries beyond their expertise. We are thankful it was held in committee today. #HealthcareMatters

Today, CMA testified against #AB1570. Optometrists simply do not have the years and countless hours of experience physicians receive during their residency training, and therefore do NOT have the surgical expertise to operate on the body's most delicate organ.

If #AB1570 becomes law, patients (esp. those in underserved communities) might see optometrists for surgical procedures not knowing that they are not physicians, or without realizing the great discrepancy in the level of training optometrists have compared to ophthalmologists.
