The rain tonight reminds me of the time when I was homeless in Brisbane. Looking for shelter, we were moved on by police under the instructions of then Lord Mayor Campbell Newman. A year later I had the misfortune of meeting Mr Newman, in my capacity as a journalist for Big Issue magazine. I asked Mr Newman to take part in the annual CEO Sleepout, to raise awareness of homelessness. Mr Newman's response was that he didn't have time for such a “pointless crusade.” Mr Newman went on to become Premier of Queensland. His lack of success in that position can probably be traced back to his time in the military. Mr Newman was derisively referred to by his fellow cadets as “Ankles” - three feet lower than a c***. He graduated 2nd last in his class at the military Academy. During his time as Premier, one of his lieutenants was David Crisafulli, who now seeks to be the new premier of Queensland. This would be a big mistake. If you think Ankles Newman was a disaster, Ankles Crisafulli shows all the signs that he will be far, far worse. Labor may not be perfect, but it is better to vote for the lesser of two evils. Ankles Crisafulli and his merry men would destroy the state. Don't give them the opportunity.
